PC and Pad questions..
Hello,
This is probably a totally retarded question, but I'm going to be ordering some PC pads from Pat over at Exceldetail, but I noticed yesterday that I don't have a PC 7424, I have a Meguiars G100 DA. Is this the same thing as the PC? I guess my main concern is whether or not I can order the same pads for the G100, that I would order for the PC 7424?
Also, are the pads that Patrick (Exceldetail) sells machine washable? What is the difference between Pat's pad's, and Meguiars soft buff 2.0's?
Thanks!

Yeah, they're essentially the same thing but not. You can order the pads from Patrick and be just fine. Some people believe that you can't machine wash their pads and sometimes that may be the case but usually pads hold up pretty well to machine washes. The difference between Pat's and Meg's is that the Soft Buff's are larger in diameter which does not favor you and your PC. The smaller the pads you buy, the more correction you're going to get out of your G100.

Also, I need to order some pads. I'm thinking I'll probably just order a new backing plate as well. Should I go with the 5" pads, or the 6"?

So, what is actually the difference between the G100 and the PC 7424? Same basic principal .. the G100 I understand has a little more power

I think the G100 is 4 amp, the PC/UDM 3.7 amps.
As for pads, 5 BP, 5.5" pads will work wonders! Theres also 4" pads with a 3.5 BP for small, tight areas......and I do have a polishing kit which consists of Yellow/Orange/Red, Orange/White/Red, & White/Black/Red. (Orange is currently out of stock though...=( )

What do you mean by "Fixed?" I've never tried another back plate, however, I can remove the one that came with it. The counter weight, and backing plate can both be removed via the wrench that came with the machine... Not sure if that answers the quesiton or not?

A fixed backing plate would be one either incorporated into the machines build, or a backing plate with a pad affixed to it via a thermal glue.
If you say the BP on the G100 (Im pretty sure identical to the 3.7amp 7424/7336. The G110 is 4.0 amps) is removable, you can set yourself up with an array of pads, from 4", 5.5' and 6.5". I wouldnt venture past 6.5". The 5.5" is probably the best all around size. I used 6.5" for quite a long time, and did a lot of details with it, before experimenting with the 5.5". The rest is history, and I havent looked back to the 6.5". Some folks prefer the larger though, and its just a personal preference.
