Opti-Coat

Okay maybe Pat can answer this one or others! A friend told me about Opti-Coat yesterday saying he saw a video and was reading from another forum that it gave protection 2-3 years!! I call bull $)#! However, the catch it's only sold to Pros...

Anyone have any experience or read about this stuff? When will be available to the general public? Or is it just another Optimium product with a different name?

Here's the video my friend sent me, I'm sure any other combo of products can obtain the same results of Opti-Coat but 2-3 years protection?

Its not your typical sealant. You have ONE chance to get it right. With Opticoat, its literally, what you see is what you get. Theres no removing it and doing it over. Should really be left up the professional.

So what happens with this stuff? You take your car to them they get your paint as good as possible and then opti-coat it and then what?

Do you wash/wax on top of it or ?

rep surface as you sually would but do an IPA wipedown afterwards. The you apply the OC with a few different approved methods (Believe it or not, terry cloth, paper towels, or a foam back sanding block wrapped with a suede MF). Im thinking a suede foam sponge.
Apply to one panel at a time, wait for a signal the product is nearly cured, then buff clean. Apply an additional coating and repeat.
Move on to next panel. Product warranted for 3 years. Its really only offered to those making a living detailing.

You said you can't remove it so what happens after 3 years or of it fails before warranty?

Google a few forum discussions about the stuff... pretty interesting.

It almost seems like a clear bra for your entire car.

Well said!
It deteriorates as a sealant would, it just takes a lot longer! Theres also quite a few YouTubes on it FYI.

In the first video of the Evo, the gentleman states he just added a topper of Opti-Seal. I would sure as hell hope if OS was applied in the last 30 days on that car, that the water would bead off of it like that. I want to see a test panel with OC left on it for 2 years and see how the water beading is with no QD before the test or in this case OS.

if you are a pro detailer, why would you want to apply a product that lasts three years.... unless you have a slew of people beating down your door for this product and/or charge a fortune for it.

On average, its a $150.00 upsell. It also contains a little filling properties. Imagine including a warranty for 3 years protection for $150.00? And........what does the dealer charge for their claim?
This stuff smokes anything a dealer could offer.

With that said, I have a sample coming with my next order. I will do a full review, and maintain pictures and stats as long as possible. Im not sure what good this will do the "detailer au enthusiasts" as its not available (yet) to the serious detailers, like the ones in here. It may just be legal parameters which is holding that up. Theres also talk of downsizing the chemical attributes of the current OptiCoat to fulfill the needs of said detailers.
