NRWS thread, revived!

After an extensive Google search, I found Sweets write up!!
Ok, it wasn't that extensive, and SweetJazz deserves all the credit anyway!

I recently purchased the 1-gallon mister/sprayer and Optimum NRWS system from Exceldetail. My car (2007 TL-S) was too dirty to use the duster and detailer spray and it was going to rain so it was a good time to try the system out. Also, I really don’t like to wash cars. Daily paint maintenance is therapeutic for me but dragging out the bucket and hose has never been one of my favorite things to do.

First, let me say that I strongly recommend that if you use the Optimum NRWS system that you perform the pre-wash using a mister/sprayer type of device. The pre-wash treatment acts to loosen or emulsify the dirt that is on the painted surface. The goal is to rid your vehicle of the dirt without creating swirls and scratches.

I took some pictures to help illustrate the process I used to clean my car. There are several variations but I came up with the following process using my experience with keeping a dark colored vehicle looking new at all times. I prepared the following items:
1 x 5 gallon bucket (white) with Grit-Guard and 4 gallons of clean warm water.
1 x 5 gallon bucket (black) with Grit-Guard and 4 gallons of warm Optimum NRWS solution.
1 x 1-gallon sprayer filled with 1 gallon of warm Optimum NRWS solution

PREVIEW
While my car was not overly filthy I could not use the duster and detailer spray without possibly creating swirls and scratches. As stated before I do not enjoy washing a car. I really try to avoid it although it pains me more to have a dirty car. Here are a couple of before pics.

STEP 1
Pre-wash using the mister/sprayer.
I prepared 1 gallon of solution using two capfuls of Optimum NRWS per gallon of water. I wanted to make sure that there was plenty of lubricity in the spray solution since I had no experience in using the product. The instructions recommended using one capful per gallon of water and that may be perfectly fine. I divided the car in half from front to rear so I could focus on one side of the car at a time. I sprayed a generous amount of solution on the paint and let it set for about 5-10 minutes.

STEP 2
Wash using MF mit and Optimum NRWS
I normally use a MF mit to wash my car and I used one for this wash. I decided to try the two-bucket method but later decided that the rinse bucket was not adding any measureable improvement from only using a single bucket of Optimum NRWS solution. My final process was to soak the MF mit in the solution and wring it out so that the mit was not too saturated. I wiped in horizontal movements to minimize wiping the same spot too many times. Here are some pics showing how the paint looks after the wash step.

STEP 3
Initial dry using a MF Waffleweave towel
I normally use an electric leaf blower to dry my car after a wash. Using a leaf blower in the garage is probably not safe nor very smart so I grabbed some of my MF Waffleweave towels. My technique is to open the towel fully and lay over the surface. Then I grab two corners and gently pull the towel towards me. This works well for horizontal surfaces but is more difficult on the vertical surfaces. I folded the towel in half and grabbed the corners so that the folded half is closest to the ground. While holding the corners I swing the towel and dab the liquid from the vertical surfaces. Note that these techniques are OK for reducing the liquid on the surface but do not completely dry the car and bring the paint to a nice glossy shine. Step 4 addresses this. The key here is to dry the car without creating swirls and scratches. Here are a couple of pics after the towel dry. It was difficult to capture any residual solution using the camera.

STEP 4
Wipe down with MF towel and Quick Detailer
This is always my favorite step in detailing. This step will bring the paint to the glossy smooth finish we all enjoy. I use two MF towels to perform this step. One MF is for application and the other is for drying. I found that the application MF will get too saturated and will not properly dry the paint. This can also cause streaking. I take my favorite Quick Detailer (My current favorite is Meguiars Ultimate Detailer. I also like to use Mothers Showtime Instant Detailer) then fold the applicator MF three times so that I have a pad about 10” x 6”. I also do the same for the drying MF towel. I use approximately 1 spray for a 1 cubic foot area and used the applicator MF to wipe back and forth for 1-2 passes. Then I take the drying towel and use the same wiping motions to take care of any residual product. Here are the final results.

FINAL OBSERVATIONS
1) The Optimum NRWS is a good way to clean your car and greatly reduce the amount of water waste. I barely used 1 gallon of solution through spraying and washing.
2) This method is great for those who live in an apartment complex and do not have access to a hose or open area for washing. This also applies for those who have to battle snowy winters and roads caked with salt.
3) This is another option for those who have OCD when it comes to keeping your car clean and the weather is not cooperating. That is me.
4) My car looks great with no added swirls or scratches!

Tho I haven't used the NRWS for the intended use I always use 1/2 cap full in all my wash bucket soap to increase the lubricity of the soap and ease of drying.

I will do my best.........
All it does is make that 22x12x11 box heavier with additional products, which ends up costing more to ship!
FedEx is by far the cheapest to ship with for that item......I just keep my fingers crossed every time I ship one out, that they dont destroy it!
