New To Detailing

Ok so I know a bit about detailing but for the purposes of this thread act like I know nothing I have used a porter cable before but I have no idea what products I was using

I just bought a porter cable 7335 with 2 orange pads and 2 white pads

I figure the orange will be good for getting the swirls out of my car and the white willl be good for polishing is there any other pads that I should be using

also what products should I be using

I will be detailing my 01 CLS NBP and my wifes O5 magnum RT

also I live in canada thanks for any help

Some gray pads for finishing. Besides the PC and the pads what else do you have?

You can, I've used grey pads to apply wax.

Are you planning to buy online or do you have a detail supply by you?

What I use, I'm sure others will chime in with their favorites.

Optimum Compound II
Optimum Polish II

Long work times, low dusting so easy to use. So much so that I've given up on using Meguiars 105.

Switch wax and seal and you have your steps.

Cleaning - Riccardo's Clay
Polish - how bad your paint is determines how aggressive of a product you're going to need. Though I've had some luck using Polish II/Orange pad combo on soft Japanese paint.
Seal - Duragloss 105
Wax - you can use whatever you have already.

Megs paint cleaner is a polish and can be used to remove swirls, you may want something more aggressive depending on the amount of swirls. The gold class (liquid) can be used with the PC as a sealant, the paste cannot.

You will still want to be a little cautious here and start out with the least aggressive approach first. You could find out that the paint can be corrected with a less aggressive polish/pad combo.

I thought he said paint cleaner and polish as 1 product, realizing they are different products yes you would want the polish to remove swirls
