Wow....speaking from experience TSX, you should give the detailing a rest. Take one month off from even thinking about detailing, and then try to do it again.
I haven't tried detailing(my paint is crap) but I have been working on OntarioTL's cluster mod, after almost 6 months of talking with him, and many many frustrations I got it done...but just like your detailing my first prototype was flawed. I had used too much paint thinner in certain areas, a couple of hot spots! and the cluster wasn't compatible with a 99 TL
.
I felt like throwing it against the wall lol, but I just put it away for awhile till I get my motivation back to finish it.
So I know how you must feel about not getting your car detailed nicely, especially since it's brand new. As you said, your already in the middle of the desert. Don't travel when the sun is high in the sky, and the temperatures scorching. Wait till things have cooled down and try again.

Right back to the soap box eh?
Dude, step down. You ain't superior, because you're part of a group here. Being part of a majority don't mean squat. There are many groups of complete idiots, so don't think that because you jump on board with a group of others to attempt to be condescending towards an individual makes you anything.
And if you or anyone feels the need to delete any particular message, it must be because there is some truth there that hurts.
If there weren't any truth, it wouldn't hurt you, and you wouldn't be thinking about deleting it.
And in my opinion, anyone who requires me to put up with insults and personal disrespect is not a person I want any "help" from anyways.
Despite your know-it-all "Oz has spoken" wisdom, a good number of people have reached out to help me.
Guess that sucks for you and what you'd like reality to be.
So sorry, I'm not worried about the whole world reading this thread, and some how thinking it or myself important enough to give two minutes out of their day to.
Perhaps you have just a little too much time on your hands down there in the country buddy.
I hear you Jeremy, but I WAS angry, so why take that aspect out?
I wasn't angry with anyBODY in particular. I was just angry that four weekends have been taken out of my life, when I have a lot of other things I need to be focusing on. (like helping out my mother, who is struggling in this fucked up economy, for starters.)
So when a post isn't directed at any one personally, I don't see any justification for dudes coming in here playing the victim, in some passive-aggressive ploy to talk shit, or to bully someone out of having their opinion heard, because they didn't like it.
This is no different than someone talking about the difficulties of do-it-yourself home improvement, and a bunch of remodeling enthusiasts attacking that person because they want to be political about their hobby.
The very first person posting here was being a smart ass, and a bunch of others jumped on to talk shit and make personal attacks.
There's no justification for that, and no matter how much "peer pressure" they try to exert, it doesn't change reality.
Personally I have no regrets. I always want to see true colors, and I believe that has been exposed. I now understand why there are so many gung-ho posts telling inquisitive newcomers to "do it yourself!" - "it's simple!".
I have been following the drama/trauma in this thread for a while and would say that the post above by TSX.. is definitely better composed. I can see that TSX tried to improve his car, but due to confluence of several things didn't achieve what he set out to do. It is easy to get aggravated when you take pride in your ride and unwillingly cause some damage to it. I also understand that he was voicing his OPINION but was probably overwhelmed at the opposition received to his OPINION which didn't help the fact that he is still aggravated by the fact that his detailing investment hasn't netted the result he was expecting ....yet..
However from the above post he seems that he has changed gears to focus more on getting his ride fixed rather than defending his OPINION on the ease of detailing. If TSX is able to get better results from your advise then its great... if he doesn't want to follow your advise or wants to do things his way then that his choice too.
His earlier posts also seem to have aggravated a lot of people here who are offering good advice and/or defending others on this topic and also on Pat's other thread. However as an outsider I think that its time for all of you to move on forward. If you do not like TSX..Opinion or his method of delivering then please ignore and move on.
On a more personal note to TSX: Folks here are extremely friendly and helpful but you need a thick skin here to survive. If you think this is rough.... please stay away from Rambling forum...
Peace......

Hey thanks sr4dt.
I appreciate that.
Despite the negative personal characterizations made by some of these people, I am not a hard-headed person at all.
I am a human being who isn't perfect and can get frustrated, but no group of politically motivated people can define who I am. I define who I am myself.
Anybody who decides that they don't like me, because I voiced some frustrations regarding my detailing pursuit, frankly can kiss my ass and move the fuck on. If anybody decides they don't want to "share their great wisdom", then so be it.
But at the same time, making personal insults and disrespect is unacceptable and uncalled for.
And I have to laugh at your last comment (even though I appreciate your sentiment, and you being a decent and good person).
I don't think this is "rough" at all. I am white (Italian), and grew up on the Eastside of Long Beach, as well as the bottoms of South Central. And I think these dudes gettin all up in arms tryna exert a bunch of peer pressure and gettin all bent out of shape and political about their hobby, are ANYTHING but tough. lol

Thanks dogg.
Actually I think I see what the issues are at this point, but it took a LOT of detailing education to understand them. One for example, is the nature of Honda paint. (which a forum member was gracious enough to point out)
Another is the type of product (though Patrick tried to steer me right, because I know now that you START with the least aggressive method first).
At this point, I think I'll be able to "get over the mountain top".
My frustration was more about the amount of time and energy invested, versus me being totally defeated.
I appreciate your post though.
Thank you.

You know what dude...you're right. This is an internet forum...if you can't come in here and tell people how you feel and especially how you feel then it's all for not.
There can be some "clickism" on here...almost a psuedo internet camraderie that shuns people that don't agree that ALL "work" wheels are the bomb...and neons are ghetto....and if your subframe isn't scraping the ground then you don't count as being dropped. I pretty much respect and get along with everyone and I guess as I get older, I have learned to curb my anger before responding normally and that has helped me resolve thing in my own life. But who am I, or anyone, to tell you whether or not you should be mad or how your tone should come acrosse. F*** that...you're right.
You DIDN'T call anyone names...you only became defensive when people were not sensitive to the fact that you were pissed and kept soothing you by telling you how you should feel.
Good for you...you were pissed...you voiced it...hopefully vented a bit...and IMO...take yourself a break...take some pics and ask some people nicely for advice and tackle this in a month or two when you actually might ENJOY it again. If you weren't the type to enjoy doing stuff yourself...you never would have ordered the stuff to begin with. Don't lose the joy in the journey in hopes of reaching the destination too fast. Cause when that happens, you are left feeling like "what's left"?
Peace, Jeremy.

I'm not really worried about deflecting any hate.
If people have hate, then that is inside them, and it's not going to go away, despite what me or anyone else does.
There will always be hate in this world, and when people expose themselves, it makes it easier to see whose who.
Again, this thread wasn't about getting more help in fixing my car. It was just to share my personal experience with the intention to help others like me who might not be interested in taking this whole thing on as a hobby.
As a side note, outside of this forum I had a NUMBER of people telling me not to try to detail the car myself. They were actually pretty emphatic about it, with many "horror" stories.
After reading some posts in here though, I figured I was smarter than them though, or was going to be better off, because of doing more research.
I think I will eventually succeed, but it definitely was a lot more than I bargained for.
And again, for those who DO want to take this up as a hobby, or simply invest the time and energy into doing it theirselves?
This is an excellent place FOR THAT.
When it comes to people sharing helpful detailing knowledge, there really is a ton of it here, and in that aspect this forum is tops.
