The last two car's I've owned had marks left in the paint from the rubber boots on my mountain bike rack and I don't want it to happen to this one. It's a Saris Bones; the top feet go on the deck lid and the bottom on the rear bumper. The weight from the bikes push the rubber into the paint and it rubs off over time.

Any suggestions on what I could put over the boots to protect the paint? I was thinking of covering the boots with something like felt or chamois. It would need to be non-abrasive.
