Magic Clay
Magic Clay
Does anyone have experience with this product? It was the only Claybar I can find at the local stores. They had the 100gm clay bar with the clay lube for $9.99. Is this reasonable? Or should I just opt for the other ones online....?

Clay Magic is excellent, no need to buy anything else. I don't bother using the the lube that comes with it -- I use car wash solution applied with my wool wash mitt, which works at least as well and is easier to apply and wash off.
How many times you can clay with one bar depends on how dirty your car is. Visit the Autopia tutorial site www.bettercarcare.com for instructions and tips ...
clay magic
Clay Magic is a great clay and very easy to use. 3M also makes a great clay. Since there are only a few manufactures of auto clay in the world, most of it is the same stuff but just tinted a different color for that particular company. The clay from Japan seems to work best. Never use the entire bar at once to clay your car. Cut it into three or four smaller peices. This way if you drop it on the ground, you just toss it. You should get to do an entire car with one of the small peices. Once you clay the car and are finished, throw out the used peice. Dont re-use it another day. It now contains too many contaminents to be rubbing on your paint again at a later time. For lube, the bottle that comes with Clay Magic works well but is never enough to finish the job. You can buy a quick detail spray of your choice and use that as your lube. Hope that helps

So how do I tell if the piece of clay is getting too dirty to be used on the car? Or is it safe to assume if I break the Magic Clay (100gm) bar into 3-4 pieces, each piece will be adequate for the entire car, assuming the car is washed regularly?
claying
One piece of the divided clay will be plenty to do the entire car. The TSX's havent been out long enough to need a two hour clay job. Claying should take about 30 minutes at the most if car is new. Perform baggie test to see how rough paint is and then you'll have a good idea of how much work you're in for. Take a sandwich baggie, the really thin ones, and put your hand in it and rub it along the paint after it has been washed and dried. The baggie will magnify any little particles and debris trapped in the paint and it will feel like you're rubbing your hand on fine grit sand paper. While you're claying, perform baggie test as you go. If area still feels rough then continue claying that area until smooth. When done, the paint should feel like silk. As you clay, continue to knead and roll the clay often to expose a clean fresh side. Clay Magic is light blue in color so any dirt and particles will show up nicley. The reason we knead the clay is not to rub these particles on the paint and cause micro-marring or fine scratches. If you cut the clay into 3-4 pieces you will have plenty to do a car with that slice. Remember, if you drop your slice, THROW IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!! While you are claying, rub the clay gently over the paint, letting it glide over the areas. Lube, lube, lube!!!!!!! You can never use too much lube. Always rub the clay in the direction the wind would flow over that panel if the car were moving. This helps to hide any fine scratches or micro-marring that may occur if clay wasnt rolled or kneaded often. Sorry if I made it sound complicated, buts its very very easy to do and the results will speak volumes. You'll find yourself rubbing your hands across the paint for days just to feel how smooth it is. (just do it with clean hands though). Keep in mind that claying will remove your wax, so be sure to polish and re-wax after your claying adventure. Try this: Dawn wash, clay, re-wash, your favorite polish and then seal it all in with you favorite wax. Good luck!!

Magic Clay
Can Magic Clay be used on windows? Secondly, will it work on small dots of tree sap that have been on the car for a couple of months? I have tried all my cleaners and waxes but the surface still feels quite rough.
Finally had the time to detail my car today. Used clay magic bar (only 1/4 of it which was actually more than adequte in my case). It worked great except it just made me realize how many tiny white chips I have on the front end of my car. There was like tons of them. Anyway, then used two coats of Z-5 and then single Z-1. The car is now shinier and smoother than new! except for all the white chips of course.
the magic clay bar is really easy to use, and the lube is definitely not enough as TSXtc suggested, but it smelled like suntan lotion which helped lifting the spirit on such a warm day. I felt like I was on the beach and by the ocean with my car

I used it on the windows and it seemed to work fine, althought generally there is much stuff that really sticks to the window as bad as onto the paint. I had some big blobs of tree sap on the car, but I had removed them with rubbing alcohol with much ease.
Ive used Mothers, Griots Garage, Meguiars, & Clay Magic....Hands down... Claymagic is number 1. I was shocked because it was so cheap. My dealer recommended it to me (blue) theres a red one to for professionals. Id put Groits garage 2nd & meguiars quickclay is just shit.
Clay magic saved me alot of money. Scraped the front left end backing out of my garage. (There was a car behind me so I had to make a sharp turn) Luckily it seemed as if there was only paint transfer from the garage to my TSX no dents, but there was ALOT and it was pretty thick. Got Clay Magic and everything looks good as new now. Except for a small paint chip wich I was suprised to find that it was black under the gray paint. Anyway, claybar is amazing and I highly recomend trying it for paint transfers before freaking out.
