Interior Care Questions
Interior Care Questions
I've had my 2009 TSX for a month now. Basically, brand new. I don't drive that much (mostly on weekends) and my back seats are occupied with passengers perhaps only a few times a month. I like to keep things very clean (no eating, drinking, etc.) Anyway, this is just some background info.
Questions:
1) What do I need to use to properly maintain seat leather in the car and how often?
2) What do I need to use for dashboard, plastic parts and how often?
-- it looks there is a fair amount of leather on doors, and steering wheel has leather too (I think it's leather). Should I use something different here?
3) I had tint installed on my windows. Any special safe cleaner recommendations? (I'm aware that has to be without ammonia)
I don't want to turn into a clean freak having a million of cleaning products in my trunk. I just want to protect (and clean from dust) what I have. Very much looking forward to recommendations.
Alex.

1) I think Woolite and some distilled water would work just fine in a spray bottle. I think about once a week would be fine for high traffic areas and every month otherwise.
2) You just need to ensure that you use something that has UV protecting properties and cleaning properties, obviously. Some people like to use diluted APC and some sort of UV protectant. Usually it's a two-step process but there are some one-step products out there.
3) I know Stoner's Invisible Glass (which can be bought OTC) is tint-safe. I know there are others but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

For the seats dirt is the worst enemy, I use a 6/1 water to Woolite mix and just slightly mist the seats weekly and wipe them down. Conditioner once every 6 weeks
2) What do I need to use for dashboard, plastic parts and how often?
-- it looks there is a fair amount of leather on doors, and steering wheel has leather too (I think it's leather). Should I use something different here? For this I again use the water/woolite but I mist it on the M/F cloth and wipe and wipe it all down. It will also act like a dust magnet. Costco sells good yellow M/F cloths for around $10 for 32. The to treat I use 303 or Meguiars #40 but again mist it on the cloth ... not the dash
3) I had tint installed on my windows. Any special safe cleaner recommendations? (I'm aware that has to be without ammonia)
I also recommend Stoners , I use the pump not the spray can

Heres some info on new and new/used car care......
Questions:
1) What do I need to use to properly maintain seat leather in the car and how often?
Agreed with the above statement, once weekly for the heavier exposed surfaces, once monthly for little to no traffic. I normally recommend using a microfiber towel doused with water, then wrung out. Wipe front seating areas once weekly. Do not leave standing water on seats. Condition every 8-10 weeks. Lower latitude, Southern Fl, Arizona, So. Cal areas may consider every other month.
2) What do I need to use for dashboard, plastic parts and how often?
I have found nothing better then einszett Cockpit Premium
-- it looks there is a fair amount of leather on doors, and steering wheel has leather too (I think it's leather). Should I use something different here? Obviously you would never want to put anything containing silicone or any gloss enhancing agents on the steering wheel. For non sensitive areas, consider 303 Aerospace Protectant.
3) I had tint installed on my windows. Any special safe cleaner recommendations? (I'm aware that has to be without ammonia) I like Surf City Garage Glass Cleaner.....

Oh, one more question. I get the cleaning and conditioning leather part. But then I see "protectant" products. I'm talking specifically about leather seats here. Is this yet another thing one should use? And if so, how often? Also, I would imagine, as last step in the process.
Conditioners, for the most part are the protectants I refer to.
Most conditioners dont contain UV inhibitors.
I really like spraying 303 on a MF and calling it done!
Some folks like that imitation "leather" smell, which is a man made scent anyway. Leather really doesnt have a scent, 'cept for the chemical smell thats carried over when its being processed.....

Sorry to bringing this back, but seriously what is "Woolite"? Woolite is a brand, they have tons of products. Fabric softeners, carpet cleaners, I seriously doubt these are the things you all are talking about when you are cleaning your dashboard. What is this woolite and where can I get it? They don't have it at the grocery store I go to.
