If you have never used a Clay Bar...
I highly recommend it!
I went to clean my car the other day and decided that I should clay it and wax it too, so I went and bought the Mother's clay bar kit at advance auto. After washing my car I thought the paint felt pretty smooth and that the clay wouldn't really do much... I was wrong. The difference is CRAZY! The paint looks and feels brand new now. I even did the windows. It's so smooth I can't stop touching it haha. It took me forever to clay and wax the whole car but it was so worth it.
Definitely try it out if you haven't before.

Claying is pretty simple as well. If you can rub a bar of soap on your body, you can clay bar a car- pretty much the same idea except you kneed the clay once in a while and might want to spray a little solution on the car.
I clay once a year after washing when the car is still wet- it goes pretty fast if you clay annually. First time, might take some time though but it's easy afterwards.

You always risk marring any vehicle if you don't use the product correctly. A few tips might help you reduce those chances.
1. Knead the clay often, reducing the chances of you rubbing dirt and grime into the paint over and over.
2. Use a lubricant, if the clay acts as if it is "grabbing" the paint, it's not slick enough.
3. Use a plush, clean microfiber towel. Fold it into sections that way you can flip it over every so often and use a clean section.
4. If you drop the clay or the towel at grab a fresh one, do not use them again.

clay barring is awesome.
I've only done it once, and when I did WOW.
You can tell it has never been clay barred, there was so many specs on my car that looked like pimples that were growing, and eventually was removed.
it took me and my dad HOURS just to clay bar the car.
the car was sooooooooooooooooo smoooooooooooth

Pros
Much easier to use than detailer's clay
Can be cleaned and re-used, rinse off the accumulated contaminants with water
Can be used on paint, glass, wheel surfaces, and etc
Cons
More aggresive (abrasive) than clay (needs machine polishing post use)
Expensive for DIY detailers (~ 50 USD)
IMO this product will replace detailer's (bar) clay

I recently purchased one (the one marketed by Nanoskin, although folks have mentioned the SM Arnold one seems to be the same towel), and used it this past weekend on my 335i. It's an awesome product, in my opinion. It makes claying faster, plus it doesn't require you to constantly knead the clay. You could use it as one big towel, folded in half, or folded in fourths.
I honestly couldn't tell how much marring it adds since my BMW is white and needs paint correction. I was planning for that this past weekend, but unfortunately didn't have enough time.

I would reccomend using Zymol Lehm Clay bar and the lehm clay lube. They are around $60 but are excellent especially before using the zymol hd cleanse and zymol concours which is what i use for my ride
