Without the pictures of the scratch, it's hard to suggest solutions. If the scratch is pass the clearcoat and into the paint, no detailing chemical will help since it needs touch up paint or a re-spray to fix it. If you can feel the scratch with your fingernails, it's already pretty deep and if you decide to compound or polish it out, you may sacrafice you protective clearcoat in that surrounding area so keep a watchful eye as you work on it to the point that you are satisfied without taking too much clearcoat off. Whatever you decide to do to solve your scratch problem, remember when working on it that there is a point of diminishing returns (between keeping a healthy thickness of clearcoat around the scratch vs. taking it down close to the paint layer).

~One mans opinion / observations~

I would try to clean the surrounding area with a solvent type cleaner, fill the deep ‘scratch’ with Bondo detailers putty and then use touch-up paint

This is why we ask for a photograph, its far easier to analysis a problem by seeing it as opposed to guessing by from a worded description (plus we like to see photos of your car LOL)

~Hope this helps~
