How soon to wax( or polymer) a new car

just got my black TL thrusday the build date is 11/04 the old truism was to wait for the paint to cure before waxing it. Any ideas if this is still true how long should I wait. I plan to clay, followed by some 3m smr for the minor swirls then aio sg then ps21 or souvrain.

well the answer given to me at autopia was that unlike when you have an accident and repaint the cure of the paint at the factory is a high temp so that no further paint cure is needed. here is a pic off the hood after AIO and one layer of SG

Be sure to be happy with the look and amount of layers of the Sg before you apply the carnuaba, because once the carnuaba is on you cant apply more SG.

~One man’s opinion / observations~

New cars with OEM water based paint are cured at high temperatures, sometimes as high as 300 degrees in special baking ovens and can be waxed the moment it is rolled out of the manufacturing plant.

New cars go through the painting and baking process without any of the rubber, plastic, and cloth components installed. This is why they can expose the cars paint to such high temperatures. These high temperatures and special paints used at the factory level ensure the paint is fully cured by the time the car leaves the assembly line.

~Hope this helps~

I sent a note inquiring about this to Griot's Garage. They suggested waiting 3 months for waxing, but you could clay and "Speed Shine" (their clay lubricant/quick detailer) right away. My black car has an 08/04 build. If I get the chance I'll do it over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend or as soon thereafter as I can.
