how to really clean the wheels

I have some tough dirt/dust/oil, whatever it is stuck on my rims and it really bothers me. I bought one of those hard little brushes with hard bristles and it still isn't coming off.

What's the best wheel cleaner out there to get that stuff off??

thanks!

Just bought some McGuires spray alloy wheel cleaner (in the pink/purple bottle). Just spray on wheels and rinse off with the hose. Works great - got rid of the junk on my rims that I couldn't remove with a brush!

I think I'm a Meguiar's product whore. I think I own almost every product they produce, including the wheel cleaner. Just got my NXT wax in the mail today. I hope it's nice out this weekend so I can try it out!

I own a Suzuki sportbike and use Pro Honda Polish to clean that and decided to use that on my wheels. I had some stuff on there that wasnt coming off with with a soapy water mixture and a sponge. I sprayed it on there and wiped it off and everything came off great.

I assume you mean on the inside portion? Wire brush sort of clued me in... anyway, do a search here. The way I solved this issue was to have the inside portions painted. That way it's harder for stuff to stick on.

SOAP AND WATER.....and a soft brush like you would use on your paint.....

if it gets so dirty that you need to spray stuff on it.........you need to CLEAN YOUR CAR MORE OFTEN!!!!

I use Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner for a major wheel cleaning -- works great, and is available at many places. I use a soft brush only; many wheels are clear coated, and a stiff brush will damage the protective coat.

However, I don't need to use it very often -- here's why. About 8 months ago, when I got my TSX, I took the wheels off, cleaned them (A2Z), and then put 2 coats of Zaino sealant on them (have also used Meguiar's #20). With the sealant in place, my normal car wash solution and a soft wheel brush gets everything off. In fact, using a strong wheel cleaner would take the sealant off.

I recommend this Autopia tutorial on wheel cleaning: www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=41

i clean the wheels once in a while. it is quite difficult to keep them clean beacuse once you start driving again the dirt comes back quickly.

Anyone remove their wheels to clean them?

Given that there is a lot of visible wheel unreachable from the outside, does anyone remove their wheels to clean them?

My driveway is sloped significantly so doing such would be dangerous.

However, I'm very tempted to hop over to the pop-in-law's house and do this from time to time.

............or am I getting flaky............???

I do my own tire rotations because I can clean the inside of the wheels at the same time. I still get them dirty often though (every 3000mi isn't enough to keep the inside of the wheels clean)

Good idea man. But, what about balance? Do you also balance your tires? I'd like to take me wheels off when I rotate so I can clean inside also.

Eagle One A2Z is BY FAR the best wheel cleaner i've ever used. Throw it on, agitate the stuff a little bit w/ a mitt and hose off. I've used it to make wheels that hadn't been cleaned in a YEAR look spotless.

Autozone has a special 2 bottles for $5.99 (regular $4.99) I stocked up and bought 10 bottles :o

I thought the same till I used A2Z, I had been using Simple Green to clean wheels for YEARS until I tried this stuff. I still use SG on customers cars because it's so cheap though.

P21s

P21S tire and wheel gel. Or Eagle one A2Z. For a finished look I like Einszetts Tiefenflager. Leaves it shiny but not too shiny and leaves no film on tire.
