How often should I re-knead my clay bar?
I'm going to detail my sister's BMW tomorrow. Last time, when I clay barred my car, I used the entire clay bar. After claying my car, I felt that I wasted a lot of it.
How do you guys do it? Do you guys just reknead after completing a panel? Will the gunk on the clay bar ever scratch car paint?
Thanks

I cut mine in 1/3 ... kneed it soon as the surface of it looks like it has something on it .. and no the stuff in it won't scratch unless its really contaminated.
In other words kneed it a lot.

This person, Adam, uses 1/3 of the clay bar. He will fold it 2 to 3 times when he see's the contaminates, and says that the clay should do about 3 to 5 cars, depending on the condition of the vehicle.

a meguiars clay kit that you can buy for 20 bucks at autozone will last you forever, unless you detail for a living....
the kit contains two small bars, and each one will do atleast 3 full cars, thats a total of 6 full cars, and if you clay 2 times a year, thats going to last you for atleast 3 years...and the reallity of it is, once you do that first full clay job, more then likely you wont need to reclay the vertical surfaces after that...usually i just clay the hood and the front fenders and maybe the roof....

I wanna do this soon too. I am getting my car detailed but I am gonna be there when it gets done giving a helping hand. I thought that clay bar would get used up pretty quick and I would have to get more then one kit since my car hasn't been done ever i think. Thanks for the info

^myron. save your money as one kit is more then enough for your car.
Invest in some quality products after you have teh car detailed. The vendors here have top-notch stuff to keep you car clean and swirl free (with proper washing/drying techniques, of course)
