Holey Leather Treatment Batman!

Hello Homies - this question is from my darling, lovely wife. She is obsessed with car care, but has been unable to find a satisfactory leather cleaner/conditioner for our Acuras. Since her TL and my RDX have leather seats with ventilation holes, all cream conditioners are out of the question - they all leave white gunk in the holes, which is not as entertaining to remove with a toothpick as you might think.

The only conditioner she's found that does not do this is McGuire's leather wipes. They work pretty well, but they leave the seats VERY slippery, and for weeks after conditioning. Does anyone know of a clear leather cleaner/conditioner that does not leave glop in the holes of the seats?

I'd really like to find an answer - it's likely she'll do my leather if I find a good solution.

I use both Zaino's Z-9 (cleaner) and Z-10 (leather in a bottle). Stuff works great and does NOT fill in the holes... I've been using it since the day I bought my 07 TSX with Ebony Interior. Great stuff!

ditto on the z9/z10 combo. another tip is to apply the leather conditioner to your MF application pad and fold the applicator in half to disperse the product over the pad surface. that will prevent a big glob of it landing on your seat and filling in the holes.

Try lazaino. FYI, there are other products available like Four Star and Duragloss and you can check with our authorized vendor, Exceldetail for those particular products. BTW, he's located in SoCal (Thousand Oaks) . . .

This method works for all leather care products as well. I do the same exact thing with every leather product I use. Works like a champ! (I use a foam pad with creams though)

I use lexol and use the fold method and it works perfectly. If you want something that is much more liquidy, use 303 Aerospace protectant. IT is available at any boating store. I use it on the TL dash, doors, leather, ETC to prevent the infamous fading of the dash and to protech the seats when i feel lazy.

Trying Zaino

Well given the high marks for Zaino, got my wife some Z9 and Z10 and and she seems motivated to do our leather. Also got some Z2 Polish for her. This oughta be a great weekend. Will let you know how it turns out.

My wife tried the Zaino Z2 polish on my daughter's black Honda Accord as a test and it worked great. It was getting late in the day and was a bit cool and moist, yet the Zaino came off without very easily leaving a great lustrous shine. Can't wait for her to try it out on my RDX.

Well, my wife tried Zaino on her TL and loved it. Enough that she even polished my RDX. Thank you for the great recommendation.
Here's her review (and no, neither of us are affliated with Zaino products):

Thanks so much for your suggestion of Zaino for a leather conditioner. Many of you explained the technique of folding over the cloth with creme leather conditioners to avoid filling the holes in the black leather with white creme, but that hadn't ever worked for me. I tried out Zaino on your recommendation and it worked great! It leaves the leather feeling soft and looking rich, but not shiny like other products I tried. and most importantly it did NOT fill the holes!

But that's not even the good news. While at the Zaino website I went ahead and tried the Z-2 Pro Show Car polish for clear coated car finishes, and this product is AMAZING. I'm a fanatic about washing, claying and waxing my car to get the smoothest possible finish, but the Zaino Z-2 is better than anything I've tried. It's so easy to put on and take off, that I polished my son's 2000 Accord AND Steve's RDX this weekend! Last weekend I did my Acura TL, and it feels fantastic - so smooth it's wonderful. Since I have a black car, it's always a hassle to avoid getting wax in the crevices and gaskets, but the Zaino polish doesn't leave any residue at all, no powder flying around, when you're done the car is perfect.

Today the mailman asked my son if his 7 year old car was a new car! Doesn't get better than that!

I was looking to get the FS leather conditioner and cleaner product, do any of you guys know if they will give me the same end leather product as mentioned above ("I tried out Zaino on your recommendation and it worked great! It leaves the leather feeling soft and looking rich, but not shiny like other products I tried. and most importantly it did NOT fill the holes!")? Or do the FS leather products make it slippery and shinny, cause i don't want that?

i love duragloss leather conditioner. Rumors it might be the same as Zaino at half the price and available locally. Check your local carquest, you wont regret it.

I've been using Duragloss conditioner, and i do agree it's some solid stuff, i've tried zymol / meg's wipes. Still think duragloss passes those other two.

definately - hit up carquest - they are the only ones that sell duragloss products locally. When your there, pick up some Aquawax, again another product you cannot go wrong with. Its been compared to Zaino's Z8 at a quarter of the price.

I've used Lexol before, and its a good product. Its a little expensive last time i checked. I'm not saying run out and get it if you still have a bunch of lexol left, but consider it next time you're making a purchase for leather conditioner.

I am expecting a large leather sectional sofa in the next few weeks, so my liited supply of Lexol may diminish rather quickly! I will give the Duragloss a shot when I run out. Thanks.
