Hard Water Stains

Well, over last summer my car got "sprinklered" on many times. Now I have many many hard water droplet stains on my hood, chrome grill and front bumper.

Anyone have a suggestion how to get rid of them? Zaino Z-7 car wash does nothing.

Usually a good wax cleaner works on any surface. After washing my car sometimes I am not as quick as the heat in the air drying my car, so when I am done, I use a cleaner wax to take off the spots. I also use that on my windows and chrome pieces if they get spots too.

Some may not like using it on plastic chrome, but a chrome cleaner will also take off water spots on the hood trim.

Get yourself some Clear Cut compound. Works wonders! It does not contain any wax and should be used before you plan to wax/polish the car.

Water spots? I've seen several posts on Autopia (www.autopia.org) about fixing them.

My recollection is that white vinegar (a mild acid) is one of the common suggestions. I'd wipe or spray on, let it sit 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, then wipe off with a soft microfiber towel. Some household cleaners (e.g. Shower Power) will take off hard water spots, but I'd be concerned about damaging the paint with a too-strong cleaner.

Polishes will work, but the spots sound thick and you'll remove quite a lot of clear coat in the process. Better to get most of the minerals off chemically, then polish only the last bit and any etching.
