Good Tire Gloss? What do you use?
I used to use Black Magic on a few of my cars tires in the past and was wondering what is a good tire gloss these days? I would rather have something that is less glossy, and won't make the tires look bad when they are not freshly coated. I remember the Black Magic sort of turning tires brownish if they weren't lathered up.
Anyone recommend a decent tire gloss or foam?

The reason it turned brown is because the tires are dirty.
every month or so use a good APC or Wesleys Bleech Wite to clean the tires.. then dress them.
As to which is best .. wanna bet you get 5+ different answers or more?
Exceldetail sells one by Surf City that I got that leaces the tires black and not too glossy but i'm not sure its lasting too long.
Stay away from the clear ones .. hi-gloss and they sling.
Good ole Armorall will do fine if applied then wiped down with an old towel before it dries.

Yea, definetly have a clean and dry base before applying the protectant. The number of tire protectants are numerous (foams, gels, liquids) and everyone has a favorite. Some prefer a shiny, high gloss finish and others like a semi gloss, matte look. The best one is the one that works for you.

I use Armor All foam. It looks good, doesn't spin off, and does break down with soap. I hate those tire shines that spin off all over my paint. And I especially hate with I'm washin my car and go to wash the tires and the soap breaks down because of the tire shine. This Armor All foam fits my tastes and preferences the best.

I used the Surf City yesterday on mytruck, but I didnt use soap to clean my tires. I just used an old rag and wiped the old layer off. A lot of tire dressings "fail", because there is this misconception (IMO) that tires need to be thoroughly cleaned prior to applying a dressing. I would agree under normal circumstances, but if you continue to use the same product, why remove the oils from any farther then the surface, and put them right back?
Its sort of like removing mustard from a slice of bread, only to apply more. (Why do I always make references to food?)
Anyway, give it a try next time. Take an old cotton terry towel, and after youve washed the car, just wipe the tires to remove the old layer. Then reapply.
