GG 6 inch DA using 3 inch BP?

Ok, before you all yell at me, just a question on instead of spending $100 on the GG 3 inch DA polisher if I already own the 6 inch one, why not just buy a 3" backing plate and switch them out? I just want to be able to get into some of the smaller spots on my car. Guess I just want to save some money, plus isn't the 6" one better overall. What are the downsides? Thanks

You can absolutely do that. It's just inconvenient to switch out the backing plates every time. It's what I did before I got my second polisher, though.

Just keep in mind you'll be further concentrating the power coming down to that size. I never need to run mine over speed 4.5 even when compounding.

Thanks Zatch. Is there a particular 3" backing plate you would recommend? I see Meguir's has one, but so does Auto Geek it seems. Figure I would try this since I only plan on using the 6 inch DA twice a year most likely.

I have the one from Autogeek that I currently use on my GG6. No complaints here. It stands up to a lot of abuse.
