Finally Did It!!!!
Finally Did It!!!!
Hey guys,
Sorry i haven't been able to give an update as far as my detailing experience!!! So you all know that i purchased a boat load of products from autopia about a week ago so i was finally able to do everything over the weekend. I've just been so busy with posting my results on here until now, so i apologize for that.
So it all started on this past Saturday. I washed up my NBP/Camel 05TL w/ Navi with the NXT Car Wash and a sheepskin mit. I then sprayed the rims with the Hot Wheels by Meguiars and also sprayed the tires with the cleaning foam and washed those off and rinsed off.... Then i proceeded to dry it off with the Soft dry blade thing with the soft rubber on it. It worked okay and the only reason why i say "ok" is because of all the lines in the body of the TL, so it's hard to work around those. But for all the flat surfaces it was great. So naturally i had to follow up with the Waffle Weave Towel. THIS TOWEL IS GREAT!!!!
So then i started the ever so talked about "claying process". I used the clay bar from Sonus and i used Mother's Clay Lubricant. I also purchased the whole kit for Mothers. But just decided to use the Sonus clay bar. So everything went well with that, it just took forever and a day to get done b/c you can only do a certain section at a time. So i know you're suppose to feel the contaminants rubbing off while you're gliding the clay bar over the surface of the car, and to my surprise i didn't feel as much contaminants, etc... that i expected to fill. Now some areas were more noticeable than others, however on a whole, it wasn't bad at all. Because of this, i skipped the process of the polish and went ahead and waxed it with Meguiars NXT Tech wax (paste) and i must say this is a great wax! Very VERY easy to take off and the shine was great! I took pictures w/ my phone, however, i need step by step instructions on how to get them up here. I have NO IDEA!
So all in all i had a great experience with detailing my car. It took about 3 hrs. and some change. So it wasn't that bad. The ONLY thing about it is that since i have a black car dust and everything definitely shows up quicker than any other car. So basically for those who wax there "black" cars how long does it take before you start to see dust spots on like the trunk area, etc...? Also since i just waxed my car, etc... can i just rinse off the car and then dry it since it should still have the shine on it?
Sorry for the LONNNGGGGG thread here but hopefully it'll be useful to someone else.

For drying...check out the "perfect drying technique" thread on Autopia if you haven't already. It works great on a freshly waxed car. After sheething the water off your car, You should be able to dry your TL with the WW towel without having to wring it out. I've been able to do it and have parts of the towel still dry. I'm not a fan of those rubber drying tools.
Dealing with dust is just a part of life. It is frustrating to see your car with a fine layer of dust the day after. Sometimes it has to do with the static charge created by the towels and the metal. After the first post-wax wash, I notice that water helps cut down on the static and dust. Some products seem to attract more dust than others. You have to find out what works best for you.
You can Quick Detail your car daily if you wish to help battle the dust. Just take your time and move slowly. It's more in the methods and techniques than it is in the products. PoorBoy's Spray and wipe is my latest favorite. It's a "waterless" wash....it's a little more than a QD.
I regularly wash my car weekly, so depending on the dust level, will depend on whether I wait for the weekly wash, quick detail or whatever.
oh...3 hours doesn't sound that bad at all

In regards to the pics, i don't know how to get them up here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also when you say to use a QD, i would still need to wash/rinse off the car and then dry it and then apply the QD right?

People do use QD on cars that have light dust without washing.
Whenever you run anything across the paint, you run the risk of introducing swirls, scratches, etc. into the paint. I do this depending on the level of dust. For instance, if I just washed the car yesterday, drove to work and back and have some light road film on it, I might go at the paint with QD and a MF or 2. I'll usually only do this after I have a fresh coat of Zaino on it when the surface is extra slick.
It's a judgement call. Keep in mind Acura paint is really soft
...and that a black car is one of the hardest colors to keep....but when it's crisp, it is one of the nicest colors to have.

congrats on waxing your NBP TL...
I was so scared to wash my NBP for the first time because of swirls and stuff. but eventually i sucked it up and did it with Quick and Easy Wash (QEW) then 2 months after i bought the car i decided to detail it. QEW wash, vanilla moose handglaze then paste NXT (i didnt want to use it on a black car since ive heard disappointing stories/but it was left over from my previous car).
I've always been against owning a black car but after detailing it...I must admit it looked DAMN GOOD!
now about dust on the NBP...it took less than a week for me to see all the dust build up - especially on the rear bumper where the trunk opens.
