I would like to know too. Is it safe to just spray water all over it? I seen some people do it on their car/truck, but I get paranoid with all those wires and electrical thing inside.

With newer cars, you really don't have to worry about much, if anything at all. Some items you may want to cover are the distributor cap and air filter element but even I don't cover the dist. cap. My procedure for engine details are usually as follows:

I'll post later... I'm heading out.

I do "gettho" engine bay detailing. I just take the covers off everything but the battery (or cover the battery) and spray some degreaser on various items. I then take brush and lightly brush the degreaser. then I lightly (like with the shower function on the hose) spray the engine down. I take out any leaves or big debirs and then take a leaf-blower and dry everything off. I wait about 10 minutes to ensure it is dry and then apply some dressing.

My procedure for engine details are usually as follows:
  1. Cover any components in the engine bay that are sensitive to water (air filter elements, distributor cap, etc.)
  2. Rinse down the underside of the hood and the entire engine bay
  3. Apply an APC mixture or appropriate cut degreaser
  4. Agitate APC/degreaser
  5. Rinse
  6. Apply your favorite dressing (CD-2 Engine Detailer, Meguiar's Hyper-Dressing, Stoner's More Shine, etc.)
  7. Run vehicle for 5 minutes or so to speed up the drying process or follow up with a wipe down (optional)
  8. Remove covered components (if any)

I hope this helps some of you out.
