Dusting the brand new TSX

Hey Guys

i'm looking to find out what you all use to dust off the car? Obviously, washing it every 3 days or so is not feasible (both time and money wise).

My car collects a lot of dust and it's very visible since the car is Vortex Blue.

I want something that I can use to wipe off the dust and not scratch the paint and color of the car.

Thanks

If my car is too dusty to clean with a microfiber and some Megs UQD I will use Optimum NRWS.

DO NOT dry wipe as this is an express train to Swirlsville. A soft microfiber cloth and a quick-detailer will help you keep the swirls down.

Wouldnt that be nice Dell!?!? Truth of the matter is, most who use the Cal Car Duster implement, are doing so improperly. Theres a perfect way, and there's the wrong way. I think SweetJazz has some tips on it, Im certain he will ring in this thread soon enough!

ExcelDetail hit on it. The California Dusters are good for what you are wanting. If possible, try to find one with a wood handle. They have better brush bristles on them.

I had one of those for my old car, but the problem turned out to be when that thing got to dusty, it was more smearing the car then dusting it like it did before.

And i had only used it for a few months (it wasnt that old). I had purchased it from Pep-Boys.

Would a simple MicroFiber do it? when i just want to dust it off?

The smearing might be the parafin wax in it .. I have had mine for 4 years and it looks terrible but works great. Try wrapping it in news paper and setting it in the sun for a while.

2 things I have found with the dusters

1) Just run the tips of the mop over the surface .. no pressure. Follow it with a M/F and a QD.

2) If the car is dark colored & hot it may streak the parifin in the mop onto the paint.

Ah yes Patrick........I can't say my way is THE perfect way but since I use my dusters daily my procedure is pretty robust. When I drive my TL to work I spend about 10 minutes dusting it (weather permitting) and I will repeat the dusting prior to leaving my house the next day. The compliments always silence the crazy looks I get.

Note that I do not use the QD every day. I only use a QD once or twice per week.

Here is the link: How to Perform Daily Paint Maintenance Using the Duster and QD

Excellent tips Dale! Hot paint is a no no for a duster.

SweetJazz, that was an awsome article you put together.

Now I know why my old duster always smeared and messed up ; however, i just bought a new wooden handle one and will be airing it the next day or two.

One other question that arose, do you skip the windows? or can you just brush over them?

Thanks dell1981.

I do the windows as well. I use an antistatic QD such as Finish Kare 425 or Tuf Shine Spray & Shine. These products leave your windows super slick and easy to dust off.

Sweer Jazz,

Do you still have the link to the wooden handled California Duster, because I have a little confusion on the difference of just a California Duster and what the actually call the "California Duster, as it is also a trademarked brand name as I'm sure you know"....you know they call it "The Original CALIFORNIA DUSTER by brand name"...is there a difference????

skyfox23,

I sent you a PM of the site I usually get my dusters from. Sometimes the manufacturer website has better pricing. As far as I know there is only one California Duster. Just make sure it has a wooden handle.

Yup, It is great on windows, chrome, and painted wheels. I have used it on my Civic's paint and it is super slick and glossy.

So, would you suggest to use Tuf Shine Spray & Shine for both windows and body as QD?

Or should i get a QD like the "Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer" for the body and the "Tuf Shine Spray & Shine" for windows?
