Does a new car need to be waxed?
Does a new car need to be waxed?
Hi Guys I should be picking up my car first week of December, do I need to get it wax or does it come waxed from the factory? I'm planing on using Zaino z1 and z2 but wasn't sure if it was wise to do it right away, or if the car comes waxed.
I usually wait a little bit before waxing a new car. Cars are often delivered so soon after manufacture that the paint doesn't have a chance to cure as completely as it should. (Some paint forumulations take as long as 60 days.) I give it a month or so, then begin a regular waxing ritual.
i doubt the dealer is going to wax your new car for you, that means they're spending money on you. And plus most people can't even tell with brand new paint jobs whether it's waxed or not..
give the paint some time to cure before waxing/sealing 2-3 months is normal. My car was factory ordered and built in June, I took delivery end of July, waxed beginning of september.

I just got mine TSX over a week ago. Prior to delivery, the dealer had the car washed and later found out, "waxed" with Z5 (don't know why Z5, could be just the same stuff they used on all cars). So it is more than likely the car would be cleaned and "polished" in some way before you gets it. I was going to do the same Z1 then Z2 process until some one here said I should strip the Z5 with half and half alcohol, then clay the body and then apply Z2 with ZFX. I have spent a lot of money already on the Zaino stuff as I shouldn't be doing after getting a new car
.
.
z2 and the other zaino products are great stuff. I applied one coat of z2 a month and a half ago. It gets dirty sometimes, but the rain washes the dirt right off and it looks like I washed the car the next day :-)
Even if the dealer did me the courtesy of waxing the car before I took delivery, I'd still strip it and re-wax it myself. Some dealers use some pretty good waxes, however the vast majority of them use things which are of a lesser quality than what I would use.

Factory paint is completely cured before it leaves the factory, therefore you can apply a protectant as soon as you take delivery. And DO NOT let the dealer wash it for you. Take it right off the truck as it is and dont let them install swirl marks. Bring it home and wash it, clay it and then your wax of choice.
Thanks for the advice guys, I'm planning on washing it, claying it and waxing it right away before we get our first snow hopefully. Is Zaino z1 & z2 the best approach for a brand new car?

If you use ZFX with Z2, you don't need Z1 anymore, but do use Z7 to wash the car with clay bar. That's what I am gonna do once the weather and time is right.
I read zainos application instructions.
1. Should I buy the products from Zaino directly?
2. They discription says use z6 spray after applying the zfx additivte + z2. Is this a good thing to do or are they just trying to make me spend 10 more bucks?

I thought you could only buy directly from Zaino - there might be a few distributors around, but otherwise direct from them is the only way to go.
Z6 is like a quick detailer spray. I'd buy it and use it in between the layers of Z2 and when I want to refresh the car's appearance, but otherwise would get another bottle of Meguair's Quik Detailer or something like that for the other occasions. Ten bucks isn't that bad. Get a Mothers or Clay Magic clay bar though - no need to spend the extra on a Zaino one (it's the same as Mothers anyways).

Before you go for Zanio, I'd also consider the alternatives. I personally prefer Klasse. It is much easier to use, looks a bit nicer, and lasts just as long. It is also cheaper.

Triton,
Yeah, I think you still need a clay bar. What of the biggest sources of junk on your car is rail dust, picked up in transit.
Here are some good vendors for Klasse:
Premiumautocare.com - They have a promotion now which gives you a free bottle of their detail spray. Essentially that pays for your shiping costs. Use the code "detailcity" to get 10% off on the full order. The Klasse Concurs kit is a nice deal. You might also consider getting a bottle of Four-star Ultimate Paint Protection while you are there, which a lot of people like to use as a topper for Klassse (that is a nice idea, but definitely not a must).
Properautocare.com, autogeek.net, and http://www.autopia-carcare.com/index.html are all good places for supplies. You can find discount codes for most of these sites at www.detailcity.com, in the vendor forum. there are also discount codes at autopia.org in the good deals forum. I don't think you should have to pay full price at any of these sites.
The best sources for microfiber cloths and polishing pads, if you need them, are pakshak.com (discount code: autopia) or exceldetail.com. If you use pakshak, e-mail them first for a quote (because the discounted prices are not on the website).
Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.
Hey Darth,
Thanks for the detailed reply on were to get the products. I will take a look at them. I notice on Premiumautocare.com, there is also a Klasse Twins Plus Kit, which from what I can tell comes with 2 more rags and the detail spray for twice the price. Is this kit worth it? I'm still debating to bring my car to a detail shop to wax it since I've never done it before though I'd prefer to do it myself, just don't want to cause more damage then good.

The more expensive kit adds two things that are really worth having: Two waffle weave drying cloths, and bottle of quick detailer. Now, as it turns out, you get a bottle of quick detailer for free right now anyway at premiumautocare. And, there are decent microfiber drying cloths at your local Target or Walmart. So, personally, I'd probably pass and get the basic concours kit. For $39.00 you basically get everything you need. With that 10% off, that is only about $37.00. Later, if you decide, you can buy the rest of the stuff as you need.
If it were me, I'd go with the Klasse instead of the detail shop. Most detail shops don't use products of this quality, and the same money that would get you a Klasse kit that will last three years might not even get you one detail. You'll just be amazed at how nice Klasse will look, and how long it will last. After a few coasts, you'll have a shiny slick surface for a year.
If you are really worried about it, skip the claying step. I think claying is pretty harmless though.
Klasse itself is VERY easy to use. I know it sounds scary at first, but you'll love the outcome. And, once you do it once, it will get really easy. It will also be very hard to do any damage to your car during the process.

Thank again darth, you've kinda convinced me to do it myself. I just talked to the dealer today and they said that they are going to wax it, so that should hold me off till the spring, or should I was it in feb?
Triton,
The fanatical folks at places like Autopia.org would never allow anybody else to wash or wax their car for fear of swirls (I'm not saying I agree with that position at all, just letting you know).
Depending on how they wax it and what they use, you might get about 3 - 4 months of protection. Klasse and Zanio can last almost a year, but that is not typical with your standard waxes and sealants.
I guess you can pick your car up, and see how long the shine and beading work. But, personally, I'd plan on adding Klasse or Zanio sometime in the next month or two.
Good luck and enjoy your new car!

I just clayed and Zainoed my car today with the only mild and cloudy day we could possibly get for the season. My car (3 weeks old) had Z5 on it before I picked it up, I was going to use alcohol to remove the dealer applied Z5, but got lazy so I just washed the car, clay the exterior (was not that dirty) and put 2 coats of Z2 with ZFX on it, right before it started to rain
. It looks fantastic except there is a couple of water spots got sealed under the Z2. Hopefully I'll get rid of them in the summer time. It took me about 4-5 hours to finish, the time, cost and effort was well worth it. I got the 100% cotton towels from Sears, cotton wash pad from Advance Auto and used warm water for the whole process, all worked out pretty good. Recommended for every new car owners. I am just glad I don't need to do this again in 6-7 month.
