Detailing questions
Detailing questions
I don't know much when it comes to detailing. What I do most of the times is just wash with Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash and dry with Chamois Cloths.
As the car went through its first year winter, the paint isn't as smooth and i can feel little bumps on the surface.
I am looking for products, ( ones that can be found in Canadian Tires) that i would need to do a self detail.
Any recommendations on products and the procedures in using them will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.

^To get the paint smooth as glass you will need a claybar, which will pick-up all the contaminants embedded on the clear coat. I think you should be able to find a kit at your local car part store.
I just tried out Optimum No Rinse (ONR) and highly recommend this for maintenance washes. Don't need much water and cleans very well. Just do a search for threads on it if you want more information.

Get a sheepskin mitt to wash with and as said above clay bar the car .. CT carries the mothers clay bar kit.
As for wax ... http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
I thought chamois are suppose to do better than microfiber since they don't create any swirls?
I used to use microfiber but i found more swirls while using them.
Also, what should i use to apply any wax or sealant? And which goes first?

Chamois tends to marr the paint, you shouldn't get any swirls from the mocrofiber if you are doing it right.
When you first go to dry your car pat it down first, then mist some QD on there and wipe it down, never wipe a car without any lubricant.
Sealent is applied before the wax but you need to give it time to cure before you can out the wax on the car, just use a hand applicator to aplly it.

First off .. get rid of the chamouis... they will marr the paint .. Can Tire has big blue microfiber drying towels .. 24 x 36 .. not cheap but you will appreciate it in the long run ..

Proper M/F towels made for drying will not mar if used properly and kept clean. Waffle Weave Drying towels are the best. There is also a bit of a learning curve to using them.
Apply sealants etc with the 4" yellow foam applicators. Wash the applicator right after using it if using a sealant or throw it away. Sealant first.
About 15 years ago when I bought the 1st computer for my daughter I was also learning to use it and I went to set up an account somewhere which needed a user name. At the time I was reading the Vancouver Province sports page and right next to it was the entertainment page ( including the strip bars ) and one bar was headlining a girl named Jess Tzn ( she was Oriental ). Jess Tzn was a play on words .. Just Teasing ... Anyway .. there is the story ... and no I don't strip and I am male .. and too ugly to strip.
