Detailed: 06 Accord coupe in Nighthawk Black Pearl
Just thought I'd share.
I had the opportunity to detail an 06 Accord coupe in Nighthawk Black Pearl last weekend. Boy, was it in poor condition.
Swirls, scratches, chips, etc. You name it, it had it.
This was just a quick job though.... not a full correction. The owner only cared about getting rid of/minimizing the swirls and stuff. The paint was just dull... not really any depth or gloss.
This is what the paint looked like when I picked up the car. It had been washed 3 or 4 days prior.
After washing the car. Yup, the swirls were pretty bad... so bad that the blue flakes were being obscured by them.
After washing it, I could feel the grittiness in the paint so I decided to clay it. I used a medium grade gray clay and Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine as lube.
The paint had a lot of contaminants in it... more than I expected. This is what the clay looked like after doing only half of the trunk lid.
The rest of the car wasn't any better.
Once I was done claying the entire car, I went to work on polishing it. I used an orange pad with Menzerna PO106FF then finished it with a white pad and Menzerna PO85RD. (Menzerna SIP would have really come in handy for a few problem areas, but whatever... this wasn't a full correction anyways).
For the LSP, I decided to use a carnauba wax (Chemical Guys XXX Hard Core paste wax) instead of a sealant to try to give it some depth and gloss. Once the wax hazed, it was buffed with a MF using Chemical Guys Pro Detailer + 1x Carnauba as an aid (boy, does this stuff smell yummy ).
By the time I finished, the sun was already coming down so I couldn't really get any good shots, especially of the paint with the beautiful blue flakes in it... so these will have to suffice. This was the first time I detailed a NBP car and I have to say that NBP is an awesome color... never really appreciated it until now.
Job took about 6.5 - 7 hours

Sure looks purdy!! NBP is stunning when its all cleaned, its just keeping it that way becomes difficult (as all owners will attest).
Keep up the good work!
Rear decks are always the worst on cars. The wind actually "rolls" like a rolled up sleeping bag once it gets passed the cars aerodynamics.....

Thanks.
The owner said it was a bit swirly, but didn't expect it to be that bad. She said it was the first time it got a real detail... it was always just washed and waxed.
Yeah. I was amazed at how nice NBP actually looked when I was done. I've never seen the paint and flakes pop that way before... not even when new at a Honda/Acura dealer.
