Debadging problem

Reposting this in the right forum (from https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/new-cl-small-problem-768328/)

Hey guys, I just got CL-S 6MT recently. Today I decided to debadge the rear. It was going pretty well, I got the A C U R A off flawlessly. The 3.2CL is what started causing problems though. I got the badge off, but the glue refuses to come off. I'm pretty sure it's glue and not permanent damage because when I run my finger over it, it's all bumpy.

I removed the 3.2 CL badge using a hairdryer, a ton of thread/floss, and Goo Gone. I tried: rubbing Goo Gone into the glue crap with my hands, spraying a ton of Goo Gone over the area and just letting it sit, heating up the glue stuff, heating up the glue stuff while the Goo Gone was on it, taking car wash solution and just applying it (w/o water) straight onto it, and I think that's about all I've tried so far. I ended up just giving up and doing a quick wash of the car and calling it a day.

Searched the forum, most people seem to have gotten the glue off fine and just have slight 'marks' where the badge used to be. For me, it's as though the glue refuses to come off.

Took a few pictures of the affected area (link above). Any suggestions as to how to get the residue junk off?

Can you actually feel the bumps above the paint surface?

Yup. It feels like theres a streak of rocks or something stuck along where the badging used to be. It's really hard, I'm not even sure if it's normal glue. Getting the badge off took forever too (I had to kind of 'pull' it off, whereas for the A C U R A badges, they just kind of slid off). I don't know if it was glued on with a different type of glue or what.

Sounds like it was a different glue because the "normal" glue is a double sided foam tape.

I wonder if the previous owner debadged it, then before selling, put th ebadges back on with something other than the tape/glue Acura used.

If so, there is no telling what it is.

I know this is an old post but I'm having this EXACT problem too. I decided to remove the "3.2" in front of the "CL" emblem on the rear and there glue residue left over that I can't get rid of. I also bought goo gone and did the same thing. I applied it several times and got it worn down, but still not completely removed.

Have you figured out how to remove it yet? I may just go to Acura and get them to remove it for me.

Nope the glue residue is still there and I can't even get the type-s emblem off. Pretty sure the idiot who owned the car before me probably glued it back on with super glue or something. I think one day I'm just going to have to sand it down to get rid of it and get the whole trunk repainted

That sucks dude. I removed the 3.2 and the shadow is still there. I want to remove the CL and the Type S and replace it with a different CL font and the 3G type S badge. So I can cover up the CL and type S shadow (if there is one) but I need to get rid of the "3.2". Grr. I'll let you know if I figure out how to get rid of it.

I have the same issues as these posts! I've tried everything under the sun to get it off short of sanding it off! The glue residue is still on the car and the "shadow" still remains. Does anyone have any idea how to get it off?? It's making me want to put the emblems back on and plasti-dip all of them black...ugh

I had to wetsand the residue off both of my Maximas, then polish out the sanding marks.

I am also looking to do this to the badges on my TL. Can you please give us a quick diy on this process? Much appreciated.

Yours would be rather easy. Check the 3G TL section for a DIY.

All you need is floss and maybe some goo-gone.

A blow dryer would help to loosen the tape (make sure the blow dryer isn't so close that it would damage the clear coat). Than after a couple minutes on the badge, use the floss and just get it out. Use goo-gone to clean leftovers
