Cleaning Oxidized Headlights

I was wondering if you guys could provide some insight on this matter. The headlights on my '04 TL have seen many a day under the Florida sun and are starting to show it. I heard that metal/mag polish will work for a light cleaning. I also heard for tougher cases, use, in order, 320,700,1500,3000grit sandpaper with a constant water flow on the headlights.

I tried the search button, but it still hates me.

Meguiers PLAST-X works wonders bro.....takes some elbow grease to work it in and polishing after, but you wont be disappointed.

Yeah, it really depends how bad they are. Care to share some pictures? I can probably tell you if you need to wet sand or not based on your pictures. I also wouldn't go as low as 320 grit on wet sanding headlights. You're going to end up leaving a lot of tracers in your headlight's plastic. 1000 grit is as low as I'll go and there's really no need to go any lower.

If they are as bad as you are conveying, wetsanding is probably the best bet. 3M makes a Headlight Polishing/Restoration kit available at Kragens/Auto Zone which takes all the guess work out. Ive used it myself, its a very worthy kit at $20.00. All you need is a cordless drill and a spray bottle. Best kit I have seen and used.

I've had really good luck on our '95 Legend with Adam's clear polish. It's relatively cheap and easy to use without harsh abrasives: http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-360-a...ar-polish.aspx
