Cheap Car Wash
Cheap Car Wash
So I'm pumping gas last night. The car at the pump just ahead of me finishes up pumping and pulls out the squeegee and starts cleaning his windshield. After he's done he proceeds to start washing the rest of his car with the same squeegee. Back sides, you name it.
I was surprised to say the least but even more surprised by the fact that he was driving a 04/05 330 convertible.
He made sure to clean off the "330Ci" badge too.
I'm no car wash expert but if I had to guess I'd say washing your car with the gas station squeegee is a no no? I guess the $8.99 car wash was too much for him.

I've seen it before too...
An old man washing his brand new Accord with the windshield squeegee.
I actually went over and asked him to do himself a favor and NOT do that...
He looked at me like I was retarded. Can't say I didn't try.

I've usually use it on my windows and lights only (cleaning off the salt, etc). As far as using it on the rest of the car, I don't see the washer fluid doing much damage, but the squegee itself w/ the salt probably isn't a good combination for the paint.
If your goal is to just get some of the salt and dust off w/out spending much cash, go to one of the quarter places and just use the high pressure soap and high pressure rinse. If you go quickly, you can get most of the crap off and spend the 4 minute minimum amount.

though. If those people don't care about the appearance of their car more power to them.

Looks like it hasn't been changed in weeks. There is no way I would use this on my car, or someone else's, even with a new squegee. But then again, I'm alittle OCD when it comes to stuff like that. This weather is making me want to move South just so I don't get salt all over my car anymore. Just my

I drive my 99 Subaru Legacy, so i'm less picky as to what goes on the windows and lights (as long as i can see better). I rarely ever clean the windows on my CL at a gas station though.
My CL is currently covered up and sitting in the driveway. Hopefully this weather will change soon so i can take it out for a spin again soon (damn salt/snow/ice).

Talking about a cheap wash - I witnessed a guy on Friday at the spray-it-yourself wash doing something that made me cringe. He pulls into the stall, and proceeds to ignore the quarter dispenser and goes straight to the brush hanging from the wall. Keep in mind, everyone was washing their car, including him due to a coating of salt from a recent snow storm. Anyhow, he starts scrubbing his car with the partially wet brush, no money paid, just whatever was left on there from the last person. He proceeds to go around the whole car, and evidently the brush ran out of water on him, so he starts dipping it on the ground (which was also wet of course), and scrubs all of the side panels of his car, scrub, dip on the floor, the walls, whatever was wet...I couldn't believe my eyes. I can't bring myself to use that brush with it spewing soap out, let alone with it basically dry with floor sand, dirt, and salt embedded with minimal lubricant. What an idiot....it looked to be a pretty new Jetta.
