Best Way to Remove These Scratches?

Our 2006 Royal Blue Pearl TL has somehow managed to find itself with a bit of a bruise. The scratches were on the vehicle when it was bought in 2008, but it seems to be becoming a bit more noticeable. (Wax no longer hides it )

Luckily, the scratches aren't deep into the bumper. In fact, a body shop could probably buff it out with ease. Another option could possibly be touch up paint. Alas, we are not sure which route to take. Maybe the pictures will help

(We know, she needs a good wash!)

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wash, then using an orbital buffer polisher, buff the hell out of it with a med/deep scratch polisher, then wax. It won't rid the scratches completely, but it should make them alot less noticeable depending on how deep these scuffs are... I'd go that route before even trying touchup paint (which IMO makes it more noticeable than if you were just to leave it alone).

save some money and get it to professional body shop and have them respray the entire bumper. Honestly bumper is the easiest part of the car getting scratch, bruise...

Funny thing is, when we were rear-ended on the rear passenger side bumper, we had the entire bumper resprayed. Over time, these darn marks keep coming through. I personally think it might be some sort of residue, maybe from an oval sized bumper sticker from the previous owner. Just don't know.

If the marks keep returning after being resprayed then someone didn't do proper prep work before painting the first time.

^^this.

i'd take it back to the shop. do you have a warranty on the work?

either way i'd have it re-sprayed if a PC or buffer can't take that out.

The body shop was pretty shady. The damage to the vehicle honestly wasn't an issue, it was just minor scuffing. The body shop refused to rework it because they claimed they purchased the bumper painted from the manufacture... something I honestly don't buy. It's not that big of an issue, but I will try and get it buffed out. I probably wouldn't respray because it just doesn't seem worth the price.

i dont' think you can get an OEM bumper painted from Acura. sorry...they lied to you. they come primed and the shop has to prep and paint it to the color of your car.

hand buffing will take forever. take your car to a professional detailer (unless you own a porter cable) to see what they can do. otherwise....it's a $4-500 re-paint (just FYI). the damage to your bumper would drive me nuts. it's not a small area either. DO NOT take touch up paint to that...it'll look worse.

it's your car, so it's up to you how you want to fix it. i'm anal...and i want my car perfect...so...it's gonna get fixed correctly, the first time. it's all about pride in your ride. i may have an 05, but it sure the hell doesn't look it's age...looks like she just rolled off the dealer lot and better

Don't worry I'm on the same page as you when it comes to cars. I know damn straight they lied to us. Repair records didn't even show them replacing the bumper. The damage was very odd. Most of the damage was to the side above the wheel well with extremely minimal damage to the rear bumper. Like I said, the spot was there when we bought it, so I'm so confused how the body shop fixed the scuffs on the bumper. If they changed the bumper, the spots would be gone. Anyways, the repair was done in 2010, and was done perfectly up until now where we are noticing some blemishes. Obviously after an accident, no car will be the same.

Run the tip of your finger nail over the scratches ... if you feel them they won't buff out.

If you don't want to spray it take a look in a few automotive departments Turtle Wax used to put out a pigmented colored wax and you would be suprised what the blue will fill. Might take a few layers but it will hide a lot.

Looks like the scratches are through the clear and color coat. I do a couple test spots to see if they will polish out but more than likely you will need it refinished.

Local Auto Detail & Body Shop gave us a quote of $89 to get the marks removed. He confirmed it was residue from a sticker from the previous owner of the car that has since baked into the paint. Claims it could come out with a simple detail. Nice to know it wasn't scratches (didn't think it was because it didn't feel like it to be honest). Any DIY recommendations or should we jump on the offer?

If that is adhesive transfer, get a mild polish and try to remove it yourself. The problem with a body shop is that 99% of them have no clue how to polish a car without leaving buffer swirls all over what they polished.

Just goes to show how hard it is to diagnose anything via internet pictures. Looks like it was scratched very deeply in the pictures.
