best way to remove swirls
#2
You have to polish the exterior or use an abrasive wax like Meguiars Cleaner/Wax. It will remove most of the swirls and cover up the ones that it can't remove. If they are really bad, you might want to compound the car lightly with a fine cut compound.

Find the BEST PROFESSIONAL DETAILER IN TOWN and take it to him to fix. It is very easy to do more damage if you don't know what you're doing with waxes/polishes/etc.

You should consider investing in a Porter Cable random orbital buffer. You have to be a complete idiot to mess up your paint with it. As for the swirls, you need to polish them out. Some products that I may suggest are Menzerma Final Polish or Einszett Metallic Polish. The later is easier to use. If you are going to use these products with the Porter Cable you may want to use a white pad. The white pad is less abrasive so it would remove MINIMAL clear coat.
If the swirls are more severe you need to step up the polish to a more abrasive one such as Menzerma Intensive Polish or Einszett Paint Polish. You can use either a white or yellow polishing pad. Either way you have to follow up with the polishes that I mentioned above with a white pad and then follow up with your favorite wax. My favorite wax is P21S concours wax.
To prevent swirls in the future don't let the dealer wash the car when you bring it in. The most important step in car care is in the washing. You need the following:
-A good car wash solution
-A good quality wash mit
-two buckets, one soap one water (to rinse mit out)
-proper washing technique
My favorite car wash solution is Einszett Perls. Mit is a austrailian sheepskin mit. Wash from top to bottom. Also be sure to rinse out the mit before you dip the mit into the bucket of soap. Don't put any pressure on the mit as you are washing the car. Dry the car off with a good waffle weave microfiber drying towel.
Sorry for the long post and I know you did'nt ask for all this stuff haha, I'm just a car care freak. Most of the things I listed here can be found at www.detailersparadise.com

I'll second the Porter Cable orbital buffer. I've been using a PC orbital for years and absolulty love it. I use it for cutting, waxing, and polishing. It's a excellent buffer... great for beginners and advanced users.
I would not go as far to say you'd have to be an idiot to mess up your car's finish using this buffer, but it would take some work. No buffer is completly safe, you still must use some care.
If you're serious about detailing check out the Porter Cable 7336SP. You should be able to find one locally, but I suggest purchasing online. They can be found for ~ $125
