Am i better using my hands??
I have posted about detailing a car before. It just seems like a whole nother world to do it with a PC. If i don't care about doing it with my hands will it come out he same way? I just want my agean lookin new and will do what it takes but its almost like its a career.
The PC is a versatile tool and it does give a whole new meaning as far as detailing. Yea, you can use it to apply waxes and sealants, use it as a buffer for product removal but I think by far the main reason is for removal/correction of surface blemishes and paint correction. The PC provides consistency (movement and pressure) during the polishing process. Your hands cannot replicate the action of a PC and that will be evident on the different panels. Yes, there is an initial investment but IMO will pay off in the long run.
Both good replies thus far. Let me add, although a PC is obviously a more intensive detail, nothing beats any style of maintenance. What matters is protection, by any means manageable. What really degrades a paints surface is a lack of protection, not a lack of polishing. Polishing is important for looks, it cleanses the "skin" of the paint. It also helps with better sealant adhesion. There are plenty of all in one types of products available to get you by. But dont not do anything. If a PC isnt in your cards at the moment, tuck a little away every now and then. Youve invested a hefty sum in your auto, keep it protected for now, and you can work on "re-beautification" in a few months or so......
Definitely a whole other world with a PC or any type of machine really.
With your hands, you will never get the heat or pressure as that from a machine that you would usually need to correct your paint surface. Sure you may be able to rub hard back and forth for a minute or so, but can you really keep that up the entire car until your arms/fingers falls off?
The PC is definitely something you should save for. I doubt you woudl regret gettin it

o man. I knew there was a better reason than just laziness.
The idea of the possibility of messing up the car freaks me out. I would love to buy the PC and all the zaino products like the top thread has about the zaino process (Z2,Z5,Z6,Z7) but just don't know. I am totally comfortable with that whole zaino process and understand all directions just wish it had the PC thrown in there like speeds and directions to use with the PC.

Can Zaino Be Applied By Machine?
If you have a Porter Cable 7424 dual-action polisher, you're in luck! Using the 7424 polisher you can easily apply three or four coats of Zaino Z2 or Z5 (be sure to use ZFX!) in a couple hours and not break a sweat. The trick is to use a the Sonus SFX-3 Final Finish Pad. This pad does an amazing job applying a whisper-thin layer of Z2 or Z5. The layer is so thin, in fact, that very little toweling is necessary to remove the remaining film.
The secret is to first lightly mist the Sonus SFX-3 Final Finish Pad with Z6 (one light shot) before starting to buff. Apply the Z2 or Z5 in a thin plus sign across the pad. Buff with the speed dial set at 3 until the polish is distributed, then dial the speed up to 5. Apply more Z2 or Z5 to the pad when you see it's no longer applying a uniform film. After buffing the entire car, use a Concours Buffing Towel to remove the remaining polish film. Repeat as desired (up to four coats in a single day!).
Zaino recently released their own pre-wax and swirl reducing polish called Z-PC Fusion (Dual Action Paint Cleaner Swirl Remover). Z-PC is best applied by machine using the Sonus SFX-2 Enhance Pad. When used at a speed of 4.5 to 5.5 on the Porter Cable polisher, the Z-PC / SFX-2 Enhance Pad combo effectively removes light swirls and restores full gloss. Use the DAS Buffing Bonnets or Der Wunder Polishing Towels to remove the polish film.

i've been using my hands untill recently purchasing a PC and what was I thinking trying to do it by hand. but I had a question about using a spray wax and evenly distributing it with a finessing pad on the PC? I usually spray and spread with a applicator but felt since I have a PC now might as well use that instead?
