Advantage of a PC...
OK I've searched high and low and the general consensus seems to be to get a Porter Cable Random Orbital Polisher to make detailing easier. While $110 seems like a solid investment over the life of my car (and next several cars), why should I pay the premium for a Porter Cable over a Craftsman polisher that also does random orbital movement?
On another note, does anyone know if Autozone carries PC's as part of their "tool loaner" program?

The biggest advantage of a PC is it's variable speed and the ability to use different polishing pads. The PC operates at 2500-6000 orbits per minute (OPM) where as Wen, Waxmaster, Craftsman and other similar buffers are either single/two speed models with operating speeds of less than 3200 OPM. With the PC, one can correct surface defects, apply and remove waxes/sealant and best of all, is user friendly. Combine those aspects with the ability of using various pads makes this a versatile tool for the weekend detailer, enthusiast or pro.

In addition to all said above, you'll be more likely to actually wax your car(s). I've used one for years, although I just replaced a cheapie with a good one and have found a professional tool like the PC worthwhile.
I'm in pretty good shape, but repeatedly waxing the TL and a second car, now a larger SUV, by hand is daunting. I know the buffer does a nicer job, and it is easier and quicker, so I look forward to waxing the cars.

Another benefit of PC: You won't have to work hard and still got fantastic job (much better than by hand) with less time. Your arm/hand won't feel like leaving your body at the end of wash/clay/wax/polish if you do by PC, and you have more time to enjoy your car.
The random orbital buffer gets is name from the action of the buffer (or polishing head) This operates by the shaft rotating and spinning the back plate on an orbit radius or an eccentric offset (or throw) of 5/32-inch as opposed to a revolution on a direct-drive system, and within this eccentric orbit it also rotates in very small circles
The random orbital buffer operates with a variable speed, user adjustable, from 2,500 – 6,000 orbits per minute. (Speed # 1-5 also have a half speed setting) The application of detailing products with a random orbital has the advantage of ensuring an even pressure and constant contact speed, mimicking free hand motion but at a far greater speed. By allowing the weight and the random motion of the machine do the work, thus ensuring that the product is applied in a thin even layer, and will allow products to get embedded deeper into the paint film surface's porosity.
Apply wax or polish at speed 3, remove polish at speed 5-5.5 (I would not advice using speed 6 for long periods due to heat generated to Velcro®)
A random orbital buffer won't leave swirl or buffer marks on your paint. That's because it doesn't spin like a rotary nor does it have the rotaries speed or power. The elliptical motion mimics hand movements (only much, much faster) so paint won't burn.
