2 week old 2006 TL

Guys - Got my hands on an 06 TL ASM. I've only had it 2 weeks are I'm dying to tosse a coat of wax on it before the harsh New England snow kicks in.

Am I crazy? Do I need to get it waxed before winter to protect the new paint?

Any harm going to be done if it doesn't get waxed before spring ??

Ay thoughts or opinions? Might have to go borrow a friends garage and get it waxed......too cold?

^^ There is nothing on your car right now. The dealer didn't wax it before they handed over the keys and it shipped from the factory the same way. Though they did put the plastic sheeting on it.

As the professional said get something on it before winter starts.

Most dealers at the time of sale will apply "something" unless instructed not to do so. Whatever that something is, it may/will not have the longevity or durability that aftermarket products have. So yes, it is a good idea to apply several coats of whatever you have to serve as a protective layer for the winter. Come spring, a full esterior detail should be done.

I doubt they applied anything since I saw the car with all the plastic on it and a few hours later took delivery!! LOL.

Thanks guys - how do you feel about Pinnacle Sovereign II? Has anyone used this line?
I have had really good results from them on a past car NBP - depth and shine was outstanding.

If you're happy with the results and the look of Pinnacle, then by all means, continue to use that product. Product choice is but a small percentage of the process, concern yourself with the prep........

Prep should be easy - since it has never been waxed and it's new paint.
(Am I wrong?) No need to clay and all that other stuff..........?

Planning on getting her washed really well then apply the Pinnacle - hope fully two coats.

Gotta bribe my buddy with the heated garage !!!

To be honest, when I first got my TL, I did a full exterior detail including clay (fine grade), polish (non-abrasive) and then seal. The reason for that as I previously explained was not knowing what the dealer applied. Read post #17 by TOGWT from this thread. BTW, a number of folks have done the same when they picked up their new vehicles.

Thanks guys - I'm seriously going to do some research and look into some of the products and guidance out on this site. For now I did manage to get a good coat of Pinnacle Sovereign II on it this afternoon. Was a nice day here in Rhode Island and I just had to take advantage of it. Took me about 2 hours but at least I have something on it before the snow arrives!!!

Sunday
Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower to mid 60s.
Monday
Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of rain. Highs in the 50s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon.
Tuesday through Wednesday
Mostly clear. Windy. Highs in the mid 50s to upper 60s. Lows in the lower 30s to lower 40s.

I'll be so lucky to get some rain for a change. I cant remember the last time it even sprinkled around here......

And were apparently having another El Nino this year........I love the rain, and cold, and wind. Bring on the mayhem!
Tell that to the people who's houses slide down the mountains after a few days of rain.
In California, they build houses where they should not build houses. Then they blame the fire dept when they cant respond in time to save it.............
Anywhere with a view you'll, chances are you'll find a home, in So Cal. Be it a landfill, earthquake fault, coast, or the middle of a canyon or forest!
