$1 car wash

1. spray rim, bug, tar cleaner (if you have one)
2. take your driver's floor mat out and hang it
3. start with "soap" position. Spray on the mat for 3 seconds then Move QUICK all around the car.
4. after 20 seconds, change to water. Water will take a while to come out so you have to do it now.
5. while you are waiting for the water, soak wheel wells with remaining soap. this will make them somewhat cleaner.
6. park under shade, use microfiber, chrome polish, tire black, leather conditioner and protectant to finish all.

I do it everyweek and now I feel strange to use more than a dollar on car wash.

on the little turn knob at the do-it-yourself car wash. You know you turn the knob to soap-brush-rinse-wax-etc

I spend about $2.00
1) Insert $1.00. Rinse off car/wheels with water then fill up two buckets. (I keep stored in my trunk). The $1.00 in time is usually expired by now
2) Use 2 bucket method and sheepskin.
3) Insert $1.00 Rinse off
4)Dry

It worries me that you aren't using some type of wash mit or whatever to clean off the dirt and are only relying on the pressure from the hose. During the drying process, if all the dirt isn't removed, you may end up with microscratches.

Not that my method is any better -- I have microscratches
