04 TL Fitment guide....

17inch ------> 17x8 35-40et w/ 235/45-17
18inch-------> 18x8 35-40et w/ 245/40-18
19inch-------> 19x8.5 40et w/ 245/35-19

PCD is 5-114.3 and hub bore is 64.1.

brakes and hubs are not agressive so all design wheels should work fine with these offsets.
***For snow, 16inch regular barrel only. use 235/50-16
***Air sensors are optional.

Great info Todd. Do you know what the stock offsets are? May want to post it for good measure.

Boy is this thread made for me...

Question,

I'm getting an 04 tl 6spd in about three weeks and am in the process of looking for new wheels and tires for the vehicle. The problem is that the set I have picked out in a 19 inch size is only available in an 8" width.

Now, considering the optional Acura wheel is an 18x8.5", will the 19x8" wheel look strange on the car?

The bad part of the whole scenario is that I have had my heart set on this particular set of wheels since I first saw the spy photos several months back! But, at the same time, I want to make sure I buy a set of wheels that fit the car correctly!

Thanks in advance for all your help.

next question...

since the recommended tire size for the 18" acc. wheel is 235/40/18, would it look stupid if I still went up to a 245/35/19 tire even though the new wheel itself is .5" narrower (18.8.5 vs. 19x8)?

Thanks again.

hmm... well a 235 series tire will sit flush on an 8 inch wide tire so with 245 it'll stick out a little bit. im not 100% sure but it should fit and give a little bit of extra protection from scratching your rims.

Now,

with an 04 TL (6spd) will the offsets be any different from the auto since the front calipers stick out so much further since they're brembos?

Specifically, will a 40 offset fit on the car in a 19x8.5" size?

I'm not too good with the whole offset thing. Does this all mean the 04 can take a skightly deeper dish wheel??

These are good questions, anybody have an answer? The main problem with having the Brembo's is the caliper clearance (distance between wheel face and brakes).

Todd do you have wheels that have the caliper clearance to fit the 6MT?

what are everyone's thoughts on going with 245/40-19 for a little more "cushion?"
will rubbing be an issue?

Todd - PM'd you

Todd - Please take a look at your PM. I've got a short question on fitment. I am working with the Discount tire in Concord, NC (Justin) on identifying the potential final choice.

unsure, how did you find out 245/40-19's would fit?
that would be sweet to be able to run a 40series profile on a 19"
rim!

According to Todd's fitment guide they're too tall. Even 245/35-20 would be 1/2" too tall according to the maxes (max height 26.3") given by Todd. 245/35-20 is 26.8 and a 245/40-20 is 27.7" tall.

So for now it looks like 19" is as big as we can go with stock height.

I would also like to know if a 245/45/19 would fit. I want a little more cushion as well, and the 35 is too lo pro....in my opinion.

How's the fitment of 245's on an 8.5 inch rim? Every tire manufacturer I've seen recommends 235's for a 35 series 19" tire on a 8.5" rim.

The 245's fit perfectly. I had to go with the 245 on the 8.5" b/c the 235's were causing the rim to stick out too far from the tire.

thats the size I was wondering about too!

245/40-19

What is the WIDEST size rim I can go with without running into any problems?

I was hoping like 19x8.5 in the front, and 19x9 in the back
235/35/19 in the front and rear (or maybe even 245/35/19 in the rear)

Once some kind of coilover suspension comes out, i'm going to set them pretty low, to completely eliminate ANY wheel gap. So i need to keep that in mind, that the car will be sitting pretty low, and I dont want any rubbing problems..

So will my setup work?
And i'm going to be getting a 6speed, so what offset should I get to clear the brembo caliper? I want the deepest possible lip.

Thanks!

Yes or No?
The offset on the stock 17 "rim on the 6mt is the same as the stock 17' rim on the 5at? I have a hard time believing that Acura has two identical 17" rims with two different offsets.

I think the issue of the wheels aren't the offset, just that the OEM wheels are designed to clear the brembos whether on MT or AT where aftermarket wheels of the same offset may not clear.
