Who whould be interested in a 3TL strut bar

This is just a thread to gauge interest in a Strut bar for the 3rd gen TL. Tight now I am just working on the concept of getting one made. It would require a minimum order of 100 to get the part made. This is why I came here to see who all would be interested.

This would be designed to allow for the use of the Tein EDFC. It would bolt directly to the factory mounts. No Modifying required.

One possible look would be like this

Another would be your typical bar. It could be done in several finishes ( Carbon Fiber, Silver Carbon Fiber, Silver and Titanium Finish)

Please give feedback so I can see if this is worth pursuing. Jason

How would this be different than the Greddy Accord strut bar? Or would it just be a different option?

The greddy only latches onto one or 2 points on the car and requires an accord tophat for the 2nd. This latches onto all the bolts of the stock tophat, plus it looks like a better strutbar design (at least the first picture, dont like the 2nd)

You cant mount the Tien EDFC with the oem bar without cutting it. Research EDFC.

Thank you for answering the questions leedogg. He is one hundred percent correct. Due to the design of the factory bar, you are limited to use of the EDFC. You have to cut clearance holes in the bar, not attractive and damages integrity of the bar.

I two agree that the top bar looks better and that would be the one I would work on getting made.

No...
Other than you'll have to remove the bar to make click adjustments. So leave it off for a week until you are happy with the SS click settings, then reinstall it.

it will be of the above design, more then likly a square tube design. The main goal is to give clearance for the EDFC motors. BTW, will some one give a full deminision layout for the EDFC motors on the front. (i.e. height, width, angle if possible, etc. This will let me know how much the bar has to be offset to give this clearance.

I am thinking if we are able to get 40 people, I would go ahead and front the money to get this done. We are up to 21 that are interested. Once we get enough people, I will need one of the Mods to contact me so I can be a vendor. Jason

I went ahead and ordered a factory bar today to use as a template for making the new one. Again, I need someone with the EDFC setup to take some measurements, so I can be sure that the bar will clear the motors. Jason

I don't believe the strut bar adds that much strength to the unit body. My window cracked but it was due to the heat in the summer and a small stone chip, I am stock with the bar in place. Just because it cracked when the bar was not in place does not mean that was the cause, correlation is not causation.

That being said has anyone looked into a triangulated bar, on the EK/EJ/EM chassis they made a much more noticeable difference over the two point strut bar.

I have to disagree, uni bodies do not offer a very good rigidity. Because of the stamped aluminum, there is plenty of give for the body to role and flex under cornering. Look at any one of the uni body cars used for road and rally racing, they all have a system of reinforcement on the struts (front and rear) as well as under body on the front and rear. They will also include a roll cage the helps in making it stiffer. The roll cages are all designed to offer roll over support to keep the cab from crushing, but they also incorporate into it, cross members to give body roll support.

So I have to say, that they are quite important. Also, why would a manufacture include one on a car, if they didn't fell it was needed. That is money they could save??

Just a thought.

I am going to go ahead and get the boll rolling on this. Once I have the factory one, I will send it off to be used as a template. I have ordered the one for the 07 and will verify that it fits on the 04-06. It was a different part #, but I don't think there is any difference between the old one and the new one in terms of width and bolt pattern. This means this will work for all 04 up TL's including TL Type-S.

Please keep the support coming as I feel this is something TLers have been needing.

Waiting on the bar, once in, it will be shipped off to begin the process. I am testing to guarantee that this will work on all 3 gen TL's. I am also looking at making it so it will work on the Accord as well. I already have a set of top hats, so the hole alignment should be no problem.
