Sorry for the obvious info. As an experienced owner, I'm sure you know. What is your opinion on Redline brand ATF? I have read other owners singing their praises about the product. Something about quicker shifts. I would be interested in your take on it.
I had a 99 TL that needed two transmissions. when I got my 07 they had a new improved transmission that needed no special care. Just change the fluid with what they recommend. I have never needed to do the pressure switches. My thinking is that what I am doing works....so I was never tempted to use any other ATF and my car still runs great.

I had a 94 Legend coupe that was great until I went to one of those oil change places and had them do my trans flush and fill. The car lost reverse immediately after that, and it was all downhill from there. So When I found this forum and read about some people having trans issues, I said I would stay on top of it. Some members are saying that the Redline ATF is noticeably different in terms of performance. I don't know if they're using the Honda/Acura formulation or the racing formulation. I have to do some more digging. I have felt that shudder at low speeds about three or four times. Sounds like they worked all the bugs out the 07 tranny.

Seems spot on. From this thread, seems like the replacing the tranny pressure switches as a form of preventative maintenance only really pertains to 2004-2006 model years.

Wow! You've put in quite a bit of work, but I completely understand it. How did you get the CD player rebuilt? Mine took a squat before I got it. Also, are all the buttons on the steering wheel supposed to light up? The only one on mine that works is the cruise control button light. Did you just catch some '05/'06 seats from a salvage yard, or something else? The accelerator sensor? what is the deal with that?
That would be pretty hard. The car has safeguards in place to keep you from messing up. You cant downshift too early as the car will stop you, if you wait too long to shift the car will shift for you, and if your trying to shift too early I dont think the car will let you.
I notice that in sport mode the car has more pickup when I'm accelerating, and (this is said in the owners manual as well) when you start from a dead stop in second gear it is a very smooth start (and helps with traction).
I think it would be pretty hard to mess it up but it would be easier to learn to do it if you engage it while driving around 30+ then go onto the highway then when you feel more comfortable try it from a dead stop.
The sport/manual mode or whatever they call it will only shift gears 3-5. The car does 1 & 2 on its own, from a dead stop or not...if I'm not mistaken.
I got my 2005 TL new and have been *very* happy with it overall. Currently at 157K
PROBLEMS FIXED ALONG THE WAY
1) Tranny rebuilt at 116K Apr 2014. This despite the fact that I religiously change tranny oil every 30K and it comes out clean without any clues that tranny was going south. I do see minimal fuzz on the magnetic drain plug but no chunks or nothing noteworthy. I had the pressure switches changed @ ~100K but that did not keep the tranny from going south. I've concluded that there is simply a design flaw and the tranny oil changes & pressure switch changes were a waste of $$. Every 60K for tranny oil change was probably fine.
2) Bluetooth module died. Acura wanted $800. I lived without it for a while. Then bought the part online for ~$250 & had my body shop put it in for ~$50.
3) Power steering pump died. Replaced at ~116K mi.
4) DVD Navi drive died. Currently in repair. Fortunately I have reputable local electronics shop that does 20 of these a week. Its costing me $500 which is more than a used unit on Ebay (~$350) but I want the peace of mind with the 1yr warranty that the local shop offers.
QUIBBLES
1) Dash cracked. It looks bad. I might get a dash cover to hide it.
2) Steering wheel leather is worn. It looks bad. Not worth the $$ to replace
3) Small coolant fluid leak. I keep topping it off every 6 months. At some point I'll look into it and see if radiator needs to be replaced.
4) Seats looks their age. I wish there was an inexpensive replacement seat cover. OEM prices are not worth it.
CONCERN
1) Tranny sometimes does not engage immediately when switching from reverse to drive (particularly on an incline). I'm not going to worry about it for now but am keeping an eye on it. Comments on this issue appreciated.
WHAT I'M IMPRESSED BY
1) Drives like NEW !!! I did put in new brake rotors & tires. Most reliable car I've had yet. Plan is to keep it for another 4 yrs / 250 K
2) Touch screen Navi is really nice. I think Acura hit the sweet spot with this model and its gone downhill of late. We just test drove 2016 and 2017 MDX (for wifey) and while I love the new car interior I like my 2005 Navi MUCH better
3) Aftermarket install of a back-up camera worked out flawlessly. I paid a local shop ~$700
4) Engine is still QUIET. I switched to changing engine oil every 15K miles (using Mobil 1 extended synthetic oil which is rated for 15K miles). I've used MI110 filters since the very first oil change.

Yes, all the steering wheel buttons light up as they all have miniature bulbs behind them. They do start to burn out after about 5 years or so.
Acura replaced the seats as part of a good will thing back in '05. You can replace the seat cushion with an '05/6 version and the seat leather. The leather comes from AutoCustomLeathers.com (for about 1/3 the price of OEM from an Acura stealership) in Ludlow, MA. Their quality is good enough so you can't tell the difference.
The accelerator sensor is the drive by wire connector under the hood, not exactly a cheap part.

Congrats!! Car still looks good - especially for the age and all those miles!! Looks like you are doing 20K+ a year. That's a lot over a long period of time.

New to the forum and still trying to learn my way around but I thought I would contribute.. I just bought an 05 base model 6MT with 147k. No problems or complaints except for 3rd and 4th gear a little funky sometimes and won't go into gear all the way, not a big deal I just have to make sure it's all the way in gear before I let the clutch out. Other than that I love the car and no other complaints 👍

Welcome aboard!! If you search for GM Synchromesh fluid here on AZ, you will see many members saying it has resolved many a MT issue. I personally have it in my transmission and it eliminated the notchiness I had with getting into 3rd gear. It may resolve or ease your MT issues as well.

My baby hit 95,000 yesterday. I posted in this thread about nine months ago and since then I've gone just about 6,000 miles. I love my short commute
So far, other than regular oil changes, here's what's happened. I've lost the Bluetooth, the center console cover broke, and my side mirrors don't work right. I've replaced the timing belt, bought lots of new tires, had a front end alignment, replaced brake pads, replaced the dashboard, and fixed a leak in the power steering system. Lately, the transmission has been a bit quirky but has been behaving since I had the fluid replaced.
I NEVER want to get rid of this car, but I know it won't live forever. Despite a few hiccups here and there it's still the best car I've ever owned and I'm hoping to keep it for at least another 8 years. It should only have about 150K miles by then, but I want to get my next car (maybe an Acura RDX, or whatever the smaller SUV is called in 2025) five years before I retire so it will be paid off by retirement and then I can drive it until I die.
Still an impressive milestone. Many (most?) folks don't reach that milestone.
Thanks! Definitely as Honda/Acura owners we get "spoiled" and really think 200k is when the car is broken in!! But I definitely hope for another 200k if possible!

That's awesome. Small things do need to get replaced....my center dash and some bits of the interior and the exterior has seen better days but once I get more financially comfortable I"ll likely start to work on the little creture comfort things and cosmetics as well.
WIth the way you care for your car it sounds like it'll definitely have at least 8-10 years of life left!

I'm right around you at 120,000 miles, 2006 TL w/o Nav. Bought her used from a dealer back in 11/2011 at 67,000 miles, two owners prior to me unfortunately.
@75,000: The rear passenger side axle began screeching pretty dramatically, had that replaced.
@109,000: Had the power steering pump replaced when the steering wheel became inoperable. To this day, the steering still doesn't feel like she used to. Her center on the steering wheel usually sits off center a bit to the right despite taking her in for numerous alignments. Not sure what's going on there. A few days after having her power steering pump replaced, she couldn't start. Had to have her taken back to the shop and have the starter replaced. Due to the proximity of the repairs, this one always smelled like bs to me.
I'm about to take her to a few Acura shops tomorrow to get her ready for her biggest trip yet. I just got a job offer in Arizona and want to drive her to Phoenix, currently in Akron, Ohio. Appreciate all the info you guys have shared in this thread as I now have a nice list of common issues that come up around particular mileage.
Good luck on your interview; driving from Akron to Phoenix this time of year can be fun depending upon the route you take. Direct might be a bit boring; I'd suggest maybe looping a bit south and hitting Memphis for a good BBQ and some good music.

That'd be right up my alley but I'm cutting it so close on time and I'd have to stay in a few of the cities along the more southern route for at least a few days just to give the city some justice. Thanks though, so the results are in. Looks like I got a long conversation ahead with an old mechanic and the use of some after market parts for repairs. Sad part is the work was done over 2 years ago so that money's gone. Well, she's def in good shape for the trip now.
Great to see the high mileage TLs still going. I just bought an 08 6-speed Type S w/ 149K miles... in the week I've had it, it drives and sounds great. I'm hoping it keeps going strong... I keep my cars for a LONG time (still have a 94 S10 w/ 185K and 2000 Grand Caravan w/ 233K).
I haven't read through all 35 pages, but maybe someone knows... what's the highest mileage logged here? Is it DMZ w/ 262K miles? Lots of 200K+, and talk of running several hundred thousand more... I hope it happens!

Bluetooth HFS module draining battery (just disconnected it and got a separate BT system to aux-in that works better anyway). Cracked dash around the passenger airbag (who cares). "Tighten gas cap" warning light (after replacing the gas cap was ineffective, I replaced the purge control solenoid as recommended in other threads and it immediately stopped that). Leather still looks in great shape everywhere except some wear on the driver's seat outside edge, so I might have that re-upholstered whenever I happen to get too much money laying around someday. The MPG has gone to shit lately, seems like it is in the low teens or lower, in stop and go traffic, probably indicative of some issue.
Overall though, it is still a road trip warrior, a great place to be for hours at a time. Seats are amazing, stock stereo is amazing, plenty of power when you need it, easy and relaxing to drive.
I just hit 103k ten minutes ago!!! I've only had the TL for what will be 2 weeks this Thursday and put about 75 miles on it... (Not my primary vehicle) I am two having the tighten fuel cap warning, passenger window is dead, and passenger mirror moves up and down, side to side when pressing memory settings... Also, I have some discoloration over the passenger airbag area... Also, the armrest is flaccid, and the cup holder slide cover is broken, like most TLs... I am also wondering, does anyone notice a delay when shifting gears (automatic), I know this is common on 3gens mine is 2008... I can't temporary anymore yet...
I will hopefully have good things to temper over the coming months and years...

Theres a service bulletin for the HFL. Ive had the issue for about 5 years in my 06, but I don't think they admitted the issue on that year until recently.
212k for me.
About 200k developed the oil pump leak. Front valve cover leaking, camshaft thrust seal leaking as well. It's next to the EGR . I'd suggest replacing those during the Timing Belt service. Dealer and the DIY don't reference this item and it looks pretty easy to get to/replace.
