What is your occupation/how do you afford the 3G TL? MERGED THREADS

Im 28, I worked as a Honda tech for 7 years and now work at the Honda plant (map) that makes the tl and accord chassis. I fell in love with the car first time I seen it. Now after many years I got my opportunity to own one. Kind of ironic since my dad works for Honda as well and had his part in building them.

I'm 23, recent college grad. I bartend at night (college job, but making way too much to quit) as well as work in industrial sales during the day. 70 hrs/wk plus a 5k downpayment put me at a 200$ note, and totally worth it. I'm in love with my TL and about to start a couple mods, etc.

Myself I am a corporate pastry chef for a large restaurant group in the Rhode Island and Boston area. Love my job and my dream car - the type S in KBP FTW!

I do software development related work in Austin to afford the car, and I know these beauties really are head-turners, but to be honest that is NOT the only reason I bought it! I also enjoy the ELS system and the monster horsepower. I thought you can get chicks with these cars (that's how they made it seem back in our highschool days, right? - so easy - like all you had to do was spend the dough) but I realized after about 2 years' ownership it doesn't really work that way. No chick could give a rat's ass if I drove a $100k car, had a $800k house, and made $300k/year. You have to be a borderline celebrity before they will even pay any attention to you, wealth alone won't do it. I think it has a lot to do with the millennial (douchebag) generation being super non-superficial and caring more about experiences than owning nice things or even having a car at all. Bitches these days only care if you are funny and cute and have a personality, none traits which I possess.
While the $200/mo payments aren't exactly cheap, it's not what kills me. It's the $3000/yr maintenance average between the Brembos and tires and other random shit that goes wrong (lost a radiator - bam $1000 down the drain). This is about the average amount since purchase I've had to spend per year. So if you divide it out, a lot closer to $450/mo ownership cost + $69 car insurance + $150 gas... I finally understand what people mean when they say cars are expensive!
I have thought about selling it, but, the fact is I'm a big braggart, and I haven't had anything I could brag about for a while. Before I live in a really really shit apartment, so I could brag about my miserable living conditions. Now I live in a decent place. I would only have something to brag about if I bought a $$$ downtown highrise condo or quadrupled my salary, because everything about me right now is just extremely extremely average. I realized after a few weeks of reflection the main reason I was thinking about selling the car is because I want something to brag about --- telling people how pitiful I am because I don't have a car and have to struggle to carry heavy grocery bags home on the bus -- all the while my salmon and shrimp are spoiling from the 90 degree heat! At the end of the day, I'll just end up putting myself up shit creek without a paddle selling the car. For example, what if I lost my job? Can't drive to interviews, severely limiting replacement job options. I couldn't just buy a new car as my credit is way way way way too bad at this point to even get a credit card with a $500/limit lol!!

I know what you mean! The maintenance costs are not what I envisioned. Take my tires for example: I'm always pumping the stereo. New set of beautiful Continentals almost burned a hole in them in just one year, because I realized when I floor it at every semphore that goes red->green, the tires is actually slipping and rubbing and I didn't even realize it all this time! Thankfully I know now and ease up a bit so the new set will last closer to the rated 50k miles instead of *not even* 1/3rd that!!!

Very early thirties.
Local police department.
Always have some project I'm trying to have fun learning about. Right now it's modding the TL and messing with my old CB750 honda when it's a bit warmer.
Current Wife wants me to drop dead(like all wives do I assume?), so this and my daughters are my hobby and passion.

Wow. just WOW. I am very much taken aback. Not internet forum debate "I am taken aback" in some literary sense. I am for REALS taken aback.
To hell with the American way, that's downright evil. Your life is for you, first and foremost, don't let anyone put you into a position that you are allowed to live only by the sake of their good graces and not murdering you. Open bank accounts in unfriendly-to-America countries and slowly transfer out as many assets as possible and LEAVE! Trust me, unless you have huge political ambitions, your life even in a dictatorship like Vietnam or China can be much happier.

Maybe that's your biggest issue. Good thing mama still supports you and lets you use her CC.. for your regular romps, trips to ladyboi land, and cheescake factory.

I'm trying to play it cool with the TL, but... I got so far into debt now that I've instituted a policy since March that I'm only allowed to drive during one 24 hour period each week. If I have any other reason I *must* go somewhere, it'll have to be on the bus. I can afford to keep using up brake pads, tires, gas, oil changes... it was really hard at first, I just wanted to go out and drive for no good reason. But after exercising judicious willpower for 5 weeks I finally just got used to it and this gayness became "my life".
Will be worth it in the end. Fully 1/3rd of all my monthly expenses right now are servicing DEBT at 19.9% go DISCOVER card woo!

^ Ha, I'm a banker too. Came to my TL-S from an 11 Muatang GT, I had a 2g TL-S and loved it way back when, apparently getting married and having kids means no more Mustang, sadly. Saving money and still like my car and yes forgive me for being a noob in here but I'm no noob to cars at least.

I am a stay at home mom. My boyfriend had a lawsuit, they compensated very well. I got the better car. and its paid off.
Ive wanted a 3G type s since it came out. Always wanted the moroccan red, always wanted the ebony/taupe interior. I wanted the A-spec 6MT. When it came time to buy it, i was either getting the a-spec, 6MT and a silver on black , or black on black. and i hate black interiors. SO i settled(lol) on getting the exterior and interior color i wanted, knowing i can just get an a-spec kit. I dont regret getting the color scheme i wanted. i would have, had i got a black/silver on black.
He is currently looking for work in aviation, where he can transfer all of his automotive skills, and sales experience (for a MUCH higher pay rate).

Employment insurance. A few months ago I was a community planner working for my people. Now I am in the process of submitting an application to our national and provincial Human Rights organizations to help settle things. Actually from what I hear, lots of my coworkers are seeing lawyers at this time.
Car will be paid off in August. I probably paid more for it than I should have and the dealer basically ripped me off on the extended warranty.
My tighten gas cap warning has come on multiple times almost every single day I have driven the car and they would not fix the problem. I even explained all this in those customer satisfaction surveys they send to your email after a visit. Also there were some suspension and steering issues I asked them to check out and they did nothing at all. I had to pay for all these fixes after my warranty ran out, although the dealer did chip in on the steering pump and labour. Still pisses me off when I think about it too much or if my gas cap light comes on more than two or three times in a trip but I am trying real hard to be nice about it.
