Nokya foglight bulbs melting?
So I recently purchased and installed a pair of Nokya Arctic White Pro Halogen bulbs in my fog lights.
They're 55watt 7000k bulbs.
On the packaging it states Stage 2 high wattage.
Now I spoke with my service manager and he has told me that he has seen cases where the bulbs get too hot and melt part of the fog light housing after extended use. The fog light lens is also extremely hot to touch. I can't hold my hand on the lens for more than 10 seconds or so. This has me a bit worried. The stock wattage is also 35watts, is there any danger to using the 55watt bulb?
Also has anybody had their fog light assembly melt before from using after market bulbs? I really like how the bulbs match with my HID's but the risk of them damaging my fog light assembly is not worth it. Input from someone who has used Nokya bulbs in their fog lights for a long period of time would be appreciated.

The Nokya 2-Stage is exactly the same wattage as the OE bulbs (35W). They are also both halogen bulbs.
The OE bulbs will very hot to the touch after use; all halogens do.
The ones that melt the housing/lens are the ones draw higher wattage.
I've had mine in over a year, no problem.

Bearcat, on the packaging it clearly says that these bulbs are 55watts.
Should I switch back to stock and buy a pair of 35 watt bulbs instead?

You guys are confusing the hids with fogs. The stock fogs are 51 watts according to the service manual.
I've been running 55w nokya hyper yellows for 3 years without problems.

Sorry. Forgot the '04 - '06 is different than the '07 - '08.
I was referring to these for the '07 - '08 fogs:
http://www.speeddemonperformance.com/nost2arwhh8h.html
This is the one I have and has not been an issue. Installed Nov 2007.
Draw wattage is 35W, same as '07 - '08 stock. Output (apparent??) is 55W. Not sure of the spec for the '04 - '06 fog.

Yeah I have an 08 TL-S, my bulbs did not come in that packaging, it came in a packaging like this.
http://www.eautoworks.com/product-Nokya-33296.htm
But it says H8 on it and 55watts, Arctic white Stage 2.
It doesn't say anything about draw wattage being 35 and output being 55 either. It just says 55watts.
I guess I might just be worrying too much.

Yeah, that's the new/updated packaging.
hmmmm, wonder if they changed the bulbs. Packaging used to show "35W/55W" in the lower corner.
I think there are other manufacturers (Hoen, Luminics, etc) that make a similar set of H8 bulbs at 35W draw.

I really have no idea.
I'm an idiot when comes to stuff like this; that's why I stick to what the fitment guides say or stick with stock specs.
Or what has been proven by others with more knowledge or guts than I've got.

Is this your bulb? This is from the same website.
http://www.eautoworks.com/product-Nokya-22865.htm
If so, they are 35/55w.
Perhaps you should go with these:

my thoughts are if the housing are strong enough to handle the Xenons then they should be fine with aftermarket fog bulbs. I currently have the Nokya Yellows installed installed on mine

No, the packaging on my bulbs look like the link that I posted. There isn't a car on the front of the packaging, just the bulb itself with a blurry speedline effect.
I bought the bulb from a local tint shop when I got my windows tinted. The guy there told me it would work with my car. It's just what my service manager said that worries me. He said that if I don't use them extensively it should be ok. But what's the point of getting new bulbs if I can't have them on all the time right?
I'll just turn them off for now and switch them out for a better set of bulbs when I have time to do the work.
Supposedly the reason Nokya's heat up so much is because they simply dip the bulbs in the blue material to change it's color. The material surrounding the bulb is what makes it a lot hotter than stock bulbs. Higher quality bulbs around the 40-70 dollar price range just manufactures the color directly into the glass. That way the bulb won't suffer from increased heat because the glass itself is blue instead of having a blue coating on the glass. That's what my service manager told me anyway.

They don't handle the Xenon on th '07 - '08; the fogs are housed separetly in the lower valence grill(s).

This is another cause for concern because on the packaging it clearly states that these bulbs are made for "headlights" not foglights. The foglight assembly in the 07-08 TL is rather small. This would make heat dissipation even worse. If these bulbs were designed with a full headlight assembly in mind, it might be much too hot to run in such a small foglight assembly like on our TL's.

Are the 07-08' fogs weaker than the 99-03' fogs? Cuz I used to have an 03' 2G TL, and I had 55W Nokyas in those fogs which were also in the bumper...

Have any of you ordered the fog bulbs lately?
I ordered from Ebay based on your posts from this site:
NOKYA H8 Arctic White 7000K JDM Head/Fog Light Bulbs
These were identical to what you were using.
Here is what showed up:
Nokya H8
These are showing now as 55w bulbs, p/n NOK7223
Looking at the Nokya site the stage 1's are the 35w bulbs, NOK7423.
Nokya Stage 1
Uggg! Can someone on here stear me correctly?

Honestly, I have used an array of brands such as Nokya and Hoen Endurance (which are the best), etc.... After I put 6000K HIDs, I never looked back...
You can see Nokya Artic White and the Hoen Yellow Endurance in my garage pix. I need to take an pic of the HIDs foggies.

P.S. It gets extremely hot on the lens, so be careful...

Be careful with the 55W Nokya Stage 2 bulbs. As mentioned earlier, they can get very hot, but so do the OEM bulbs. The 55W rating is the draw--not output. If you want to run these on the OEM wiring, make sure you check the wiring to see if it can handle the additional draw. A better option would be to bypass the OEM wiring and install an HID harness. Of course, 35W HIDs should be a direct replacement, but again, you should use an HID harness instead of the OEM wiring. JnC has posted some pics of cars that used cheap HID wiring that caused the car to catch fire (although I do not think they were Acura TLs), so it CAN happen.
I tried the Arctic White Stage 2 bulbs in my 06 OEM fogs for a while, but everybody kept flashing their high beams at me thinking I had mine on! I swapped them out for the 35W Stage 1 Nokya Yellows. These bulbs have a great output that really helps during rainy nights---the yellow tint adds a lot of definition.

Stage 2's have a 55w draw according to Nokya when I called them.
Stage 1's are the closest to the stock 35w draw and should be the one's used on stock wiring.
Anything else you should probably run a relay and appropriate wire size.
Mine Stage 2's are in a box ready to be sent back for a refund.

Only place I can find them is: http://www.partsxdirect.com/
Use the search box in the upper right corner of the screen and enter part number NOK7423
The long way to this retailer is through Nokya's website http://nokyausa.com/dealers.html click on the upper left corner retail purchase section.
Not sure why but these do not come up on google or ebay.
The stage 1 hyperyellows are a 55watt draw and a lot of retail sites and the Nokya rep on phone mention to upgrade the harness for these as well. So don't be confused, artic white to yellow stage 1's have different current draws. Stage 1 is only applicable to the artic whites. However, many people are running them on here and I haven't seen any problems when using the search tool. It is at your own risk. I will only run the stage 1 artic white 35watt consumption after chatting with the manufacturer.

Wow my old thread got revived.
I guess I'll share some of my experience since I've had the Nokya stage 2 55W bulbs in my car for over a year.
The longest I've ever had them on was up to an hr while driving on the interstate. Fortunately nothing melted and my fog lights were perfectly fine. I spoke to my service manager and he said that if nothing melts in an hour of operation it should be perfectly fine. Although he didn't say he was 100% sure that it wouldn't melt if say, driving in mid summer day with 90 degree ambient temps.
If possible, I'd still try to get the 35W bulbs just to be safe. But if only 55W are available you can still install them. Just don't have them on 24/7 unless you wanna take some risks.
I only turn on my foglights when I want to go fast.

Which bulb is it for the fog lights on a 05 TL, 9005 or 9006? Aside from the HID, is 35W the standard on the fogs/ headlights on all honda? Reason I ask is I'm looking to replace the low beams on a 2010 Civic as well. I know it's 9006 but never took into consideration it possibly melting the housing. Thanks.

I used the stage 2 on mine...over a year now. But I have them at 75% power as my DRL with the module in my OEM fog location. I normally don't switch them on as I have the bumper fog mod too with HID's.
Not too concerned though, as stated, if you are to have a problem...it would more than likely occur early on. The ones to worry about are the no name brand 80 watt draw ones. That would make me nervous for sure.

I run the Stage 1 Hyper Yellows as both DRL (75%) and regular fogs with no problems.
I was running the Stage 2 Arctic White (55W) but found that everyone else kept flashing me thinking my high beams were on! They were the best match to the OEM headlights color-wise.
I like the yellows better anyway---they add some depth on those rainy nights and complement my HID Accord fogs in the grille.
