Are engine mount replacements urgent?
I had a mechanic identify a cracked engine mount in my 2008 TL. To replace it will not be cheap and I'm trying to get a sense of how urgent this repair is. Can any one give me an idea of how quickly I need to act on this repair?
Thanks.
Thanks.

That 'side mount' is literally the easiest one to replace on the whole car. A total of 5 bolts and it is out and a new one is in.
How much did the shop quote you for? If possible, get an itemized list of the cost of the mount especially to see if they are overcharging.
Check out the parts diagram on the link below starting at #10 ($70.85 before shipping).

Thanks for the reply zeta. They quoted me a price of $1265 to replace the front and right-side mounts. The break down I got was $350 for each mount and $560 for labor. Based on your initial reply, it seems like that price may be way over the top?

You can get both OEM mounts (#10 & 11), which are IMHO the way to go, for less than one $350 mount they quoted you. That's ridiculous.
Run away from that place and try and find a local Acura/Honda shop that will, hopefully, treat you fairly.

HOLY SHIT
never go back to that shop again unless thats a dealership in which case that sounds about right
like others have said, the side mount you can get out with literally a socket wrench and nothing else, you can swap it out in about 15 minutes even for a first timer
front gets harder, took me about 45 minutes with a 2nd pair of hands, my tip would be to remove the front radiator fans to clear up space, it'll make the removal and install process much easier
rear mount looked like too much of a bitch for me to do so i had a shop put it on lift and they replaced just the rear mount for like $70 or $80, took about an hour as well

Man... that's what I get for trying a new place. Thanks for everyone's feedback. Glad I posted before I paid. I half-way want to go back and confront them about it... I guess a bad review on google will suffice.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

LOL WHAT?! $1265 to replace front and side mounts. Did you wear a Valentino suit to the shop when he inspected your car?! That sounds like 4 to 5 hours of labor. The side mounts take a measly 15 minutes to replace, the front mount takes a max of 1 hour, maybe not even. So they charge you 3 hours of standing around and vaping e-sig or weed time.

Are you sure the mount is torn? That tear in the rubber looks like just the top layer of the rubber is flaking to me from your pic. You should pull on it to make sure it's a crack and not just a thin piece of rubber is peeling off.

Ha! That's the type of charge I'd see them trying to pull on some ditzy blonde that truly believes that changing the oil is a matter of pouring oil in the engine bay. Or really believes there's blinker fluid. At $1265 they'd literally make probably >$1000 profit even if they used OEM parts.

Exactly what I was thinking. I was pretty sure that was technically just a cover over the mount. I remember on mine, that cover was torn all to hell, but the mount itself was not nearly as bad. There is still a good chance the mount is shot, but just be aware that top part is not the actual structural mount.

Mine was as pictured in your photo and I could tell the mount kinda failed internally cause it seemed a little short. Bought a genuine Acura OEM replacement for ~$90 and replaced it myself in about 25 minutes. If you do it yourself, use 1/2 inch tools for all the large bolts as it'll likely snap 3/8 inch tools. Ask me how I know lol. Sure enough during replacement the overall length of both the mounts side by side was different by about 1/4 inch, the old worn one being the short and broken one.
