E-115: DIY (Improved) - Installing '07/'08 Mirrors on '06 TL

EDIT: Can a mod please help with resizing the photos? Thanks! (If you could please change the title do DIY, that would be great : )

Decided to attack my mirror install this weekend - first cosmetic mod on the TL.
After reading the DIY, I was quite worried about having to fish a new wire from the mirror, through the door and especially through the plastic loom between the door and the cabin.

I did, however, find a (in my opinion) better way to wire the mirror up.
Similar to other '06 TL owners, my drivers side mirror was plug and play.

When trying to figure out how I was going to pull a wire through the loom between the door and the cabin, I was intrigued as to how there was a wire in the harness for power to the mirror LED's, yet no power.

I traced the wire through the door, and through the wire loom between the door and cabin.

Traced it from the entry point to where it split into three different connectors. The wire white with silver spots on it, and plugs into the far end of the first connector.

The top of that same connector has no wire going into it.

Yes. Small small chance the wire might be a different color but I doubt it.

Did anyone who did this notice that the nuts on the old mirror were 8mm and on the new mirror they were all 10mm. You might want to add that to the DIY because I had to make the hole picture on the door for the bolts to fit through them.

Also, Don't know if this has been mentioned but are the 05's pre-wired as well.

$258 a piece. This goes waayyyy down on my to do list.

I'm sure I could probably get them cheaper at a wrecking yard but still going to be low on the list. also some 04-05 owners wont be able to do this because of the color changes. SSM to ASM, and ABP to RBP IIRC.

It's connected to the mirror

There's only so much an Internet forum can help you kind sir.. You'll have to take apart the door and just trace the wire from the actual side mirror itself, we can't do it remotely yet..

(Acura is working on that online remote diagnostic.. just as soon as they're done with the NSX)

FYI folks, the first 3,000 2004 TL's produced had turn signal mirrors on the window sticker! Someone at Acura or one of their suppliers fucked up!

That's definitely interesting.

2004 CDM TLs had turn signal mirrors that we see on 07/08 TLs.
Also note the clear diffusers are the same as on the Type-S TLs.
Blacked out headlights also, without the inner DRL shroud on 07/08 TLs.

You can find the mirrors at Quality Auto Glass they are not cheap and customer service is not good with my experience. Check reviews before purchase wish I did.

reviving this. after tapping the lone wire to tail light, does the wire then go back into the top connector? Does it need a pin to go into the connector or just tap to the white wire on the next connector?

What really pisses me off is the fact that the models above and below the TL for 2004, BOTH the RL and the TSX came with turn signals mirrors! WTF Acura?

Bumping this.

Currently doing this. Exactly which wire do I tap into? White with gray spots or just white? Can someone point exactly where do I tap into for the passenger side? This is by the kick panel.

I just wired to the white wire by the rear tail light. I spliced 4 wires trying to find the right white wire in the door sill loom with no luck. Just save the headache and run the wire back there.

The original post looks like the lights are on with the parking lights instead of the blinker. And the plastic looks really dark. It doesn't look oem. It looks good, but not oem..

Thanks man. I ended up doing it this way and what a pain in the ass! I had to take the rear seats out just to put the rear panels back in properly. And unfortunately, my 05 is not prewired for the driver side so I also had to do that side too and running the wires through the door jam was a pain.
