Best Budget Mods

Hey guys,

I am a college student who recently quit his job in order to pursue way too many summer classes. As a result, I don't have much money to invest in my car (a 2006 TL). That being said, I would like to get a list going of some cheap "mods" that I could do myself.

Some things I have done:
1) Switched the stock interior bulbs to LEDs
2) Plastidipped emblems, trim, and rims
3) Headlight oxidization fix

Resonator Delete! Moar Noise!

Idk what your studying but look for internships or Co-op's during the summer time, They get your foot in the door, sometime can count towards credits and best of all you get paid!

I'm currently studying accounting. Since I'm taking 17 credit hours in the span of 8 weeks, I figured I should probably wait to get another job/internship until I'm at my new school in the fall.

IMO plasti dip is cheap looking. I did it and regretted it. Regardless its a cheap mod; you are better off spending a little more on vinyl or even paint and clear coat kit, but hey its your car

Yeah, while I totally agree that paint is definitely better looking than plastidip, I just appreciate the fact that I can take it off whenever I would like and go back to stock when I have to get rid of her.

If I were you, I would wait till you finish school and get a good job before modding. Finish first, then you can buy watever & modd the hell out of it.

I have a 2006 TL too and one of my favorite mods that I have done is converted the fog lights to run independently (without the headlights or ambers having to be on) to be used as daily running lights. This took me a few hours in my garage and was free. If you can scrounge up $40, you can also throw some LED bulbs in there to to greatly improve the aesthetics from the front end of the vehicle. I have gotten lots of compliments on them. I made a thread on how I did all of this a while back. I will link it below. Happy cheap modding!

Totally disagree. Mod that shit now. Once student loans kick in and you start paying rent, buying groceries every week, needing work clothes blah blah blah you can kiss mods goodbye. Of course your financial mileage my vary.

But dat grace period. You get like 6 months after graduation before you need to start repayment (at least in the US with gvmt backed loans). Close to a year before the knee-breaker shows up at your door.

Mods for EVERYONE!!!

but during that 6 months it still collects interest. What I did was the day I graduated I threw a few grand at it just so I dont get ass raped on interest!

replace your rear sway bar with the 07-08 type-s rear sway bar.. i believe you can order a new oem one online for around $100 or less

this is one of those mods that you'll definitely feel right away vs spending $1000 on a catback exhaust system or a $320 CAI intake

If you have a lot of time, and I mean ALOT, you can tackle something like I did. These are EL wire that's tapped into my center console lights

If you have a base TL, the TL-S rear anti-roll bar is pretty cheap from the dealer. About $50-60 with the D-bushings and it is something you'll definitely notice.

Interior leds and fog light mod is good. Tint. If its automatic, i suggest keeping it stock for now engine wise, you wont get much gains unless tuned and thats spending too much money imo. Car looks nice as is.

Cheap mods....wash it, change the oil, and fill the tank with non-Ethanol Premium. Done.

I paid off my student loan and college credit card debt in under 2 years from graduating....living with my parents still allowed that to happen. Dumped the bulk of my paychecks to get myself out of debt as soon as possible. There were no mods to my car until after that...although this was 20 years ago...not much has changed other than the interest rates have gone up.
