2008 Acura TL Homelink Garage Door Opener System Programming
Couldn't get my Acura buttons to open the garage, had to substitute holding the button down for 10 seconds in place of the instruction to "press the button 4 times". Also, had to actually touch the remote to the plastic of the car at the button to get it to read the code from my remote.
I did not have an original remote, and did not need a repeater kit, as some posts recommended. I didn't have to buy anything.
Had a 2000 Acura TL, never did get this working, gave up on it. Got another Acura now, years later, and attempted it again and got it to work. Now I'm fairly sure it would work in the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Acura TLs. It would probably work in any car with a Homelink system, as I read it on a BMW site after hours of searching and attempts, so should work in BMW, Honda, Acuras or any other car with a Homelink system that has my particular problem.
I have a 2008 Acura TL, it has the Homelink system, which is the three buttons that can open garages, gates and trigger security systems.
My garage door opener system brand is Overhead Door, model 696cd/b. It has a Code Doger system so should work with any Codedoger system that is having this problem.
Steps that worked for me:
1. Press outer buttons. Press the outer buttons (1st and 3rd) and hold them down for 20 seconds, until it blinks. Same as the original instructions.
2. Touch the remote to the plastic at car buttons. Hold the garage door remote so it is touching the plastic of the car, next to the button you wish to program. The 1-3 inches away listed in the original instructions did not work for me.
3. Press buttons simultaneously. Press and hold down both the button you wish to program on the car, and the button of your garage door opener at the exact same time. The light on the button being programmed will blink slowly. Hold them both down until the light blinks faster. The original instructions say to press the remote button every two seconds, but that never worked for me.
5. Press and hold the programmed button. Hold down the programmed button for 5-10 seconds. In that time your garage door should get triggered. The official instructions say to press it four times, but that never worked for me, holding it down was the key.
Hope this works for you. I tried making this post rife with keywords so that it could be found.
If it does work for you, register here and let me know. It's worth the courtesy.

TIP: You may have to move the remote around and angle it in different ways, all with it touching the plastic, to get the faster blink to happen. The faster blink means it has successfully read the info from the remote.
4. Press learn on the garage motor. Go to the garage motor box and press the learn button. Get back in your car within 10 seconds.5. Press and hold the programmed button. Hold down the programmed button for 5-10 seconds. In that time your garage door should get triggered. I tried similar steps with our bew Liftmaster garage door opener. Doesn't work. Some newer ones will need a repeater and this was explained to me before we installed the new unit. And Liftmaster uses Homelink too if I recall
Hope your tips work for someone else though

I just tried it with your instructions and nope. Homelink light doesn't blink faster when trying to pair. Manual for garage door motor says I need a repeater and I guess I have no choice. Luckily I have the app to open it, but it just makes this annoying beeping sound from when using the app.

I couldn't get mine to blink faster for the first 10-15 attempts. I was just about to go and buy a repeater.
I had to physically touch the remote to my car's plastic, even then it would not blink faster.
I had to touch it to the plastic and move it around in different ways and find just the right angle *AND* I had to press both buttons (the one on the remote and the one on the car) and hold them down simultaneously.
Each time I attempted and failed, I went ahead and cleared it by pressing the outer buttons. Just to be thorough.
I understand some of you will need a repeater, but some may not. I was just about to purchase one, tried one more time, and did not need it.

Just wanted to say your instructions worked for my 2007 Acura TL the first time I followed your instructions step by step. I think my problem was that I was either doing steps 1-3 or 4-5. It never occurred to me to do all of them. Thanks.
