2006 vs 2007 Acura TL
#6
The 07's nav is faster (though you can't, at least for now, hack it like you can the older ones), it has a backup camera, mirror blinkers, a slightly redesigned nose, twinspoke wheels, and some say it has more durable leather.

Within each generation of TL's (2nd generation, 3rd generation) Acura makes subtle changes from year to year. These are usually based on complaints (rattles), low quality, etc.
So, IMO, if you buy a newer year within the same generation, you will be a happier customer...so go with the 2007.
Personally, I couldn't be happier with my '07 TL-S.

I have a related question to this thread. I have 2 offers for an '06 TL with 73K and still under warranty up to 100K and '07 TL with 110K. The '07 is cheaper than the '06.
Any suggestions???

To answer your question, 06 and 07 are about the same in terms of reliability. I worked in the service department at an Acura dealership during the time these cars were sold new and was there a couple years afterwords and I honestly don't remember any major mechanical failures coming in. Either one of those cars would be a good buy, so long as the cars are clean, well maintained and have no major accident history.

Mine's an 06 and I actually like the older rims better. You can't go wrong with either car though.

I had an 06 and now a 08. While I have had some car specific problems with my 08 that I didn't have with my 06, I still like the features they added in 07 model year that my 06 lacked, such as DRLs, auto headlights, better color selection, side mirror turn signals, separate fog lights, etc.

In 2007 they started using a FWD trans based off the design of the RL trans in both the base and Type S. The trans that went in the base TL has the 3.2 liter bell housing which is different than the bell housing on the type S trans. The type S trans was also tuned for more aggressive shifts, has the paddle shifters and the external cooler.

I forgot about that feature and that was the one thing I liked about driving the Auto Type S cars.

Looks are subjective. I personally like the looks of the eariler models in some colors and in other colors I like the newer ones. I do like the less busy design of the early TLs.
I like the rims of the early TLs better but again, personal preference.
Reliability will be the same.
Suspension was softened in the later base models.
Transmissions are a non issue. As long as you replace the switches and run the Redline racing fluid, they will last a very, very long time.
I don't like DRLs. I leave my headlights on all the time anyway so I don't need DRLs or auto headlights. The headlights on the early TLs still come on when you unlock the doors and go off after a preset time or when you lock the doors so IMO, the auto light feature is a bit overrated. I haven't actually turned my headlights on or off in over a year. And besides, how hard is it really, to reach all the way over to that switch and turn it?
I put foglights in the same category as appearance. I like the early fogs that are up higher for actual light output and it keeps the front end looking less busy.
It would have been nice to be able to play mp3s even though they sound like crap on a good sytem. The one thing I really wish the older TLs had is the backup camera and rev matched downshifts.
The cars are 99% the same.

AFAIK the '05 and '06 make the same horsepower. There were no changes to the drivetrain. The different HP ratings are due to changes in the tests that are used to rate HP. If an '05 and '06 were tested on the same standards/methods, they would be the same.
No?
Oh and my '06 rev matches on the downshift... its called my right foot.

What do you guys mean by change the switches? Also these trans don't use Honda ATF? The TLS has paddle shifters but does it also have the + / - shift feature on the stick? I was a manual trans driver but my wife wont drive manual :-(.Thank you as I am in the market for a TL also but am only going to by a 07 or 08.
