Prices Paid and Offers Accepted 2019 RDX
#1042
Had David McDavid here Austin, TX on the lookout for an Advance SHAWD (pretty rare in this part of the country) in white diamond pearl. They got one in Wed, went in Friday morning, I offered them $4K off MSRP (to include loyalty discount), they agreed without haggling, and drove it home that afternoon. Probably paid $200-$250 more than I should have for accessories they had already added (tint, wheel locks, bodyside moldings) but figured it was still a decent deal. The funniest thing was when I called in to add to insurance, the 2019's premium ended up being $10/yr less than my 2014 RDX AWD Tech. Go figure!

TLDNR: Guy in Ohio got a decent deal for his area
I have been interested in the RDX since it came out in June. I spent too much time on this forum, which I have enjoyed and through which learned a lot. Have been waiting for availability and pricing to improve, neither of which has happened as quickly as I would like. Still have not found an AWD Advance to test drive. We decided on an Advance because if we were going to treat ourselves to a nicer ride, we wanted all the bells and whistles.
Reached out to my local dealer a few months ago, and was told Advance models were presold at sticker and one wouldn't be available for a quite a while. Great. A month or so later, I saw an ad for Sam's Club Auto Buying indicating average savings of $3,300 off MSRP. I saw a few people on this forum getting deals through Costco's program, so I figured why not. Received a response of $500 off MSRP from that same dealer. Not much of a deal, which I told them.
Last weekend, my wife and I went to a larger dealer whose website showed a few Advance models. I know by now that website inventories don't mean much in a fast moving market, the cars show up online but that doesn't mean they are available. It was a rare free Saturday for us (local dealers are closed on Sundays), so I thought we would drive some model of RDX to see if we liked it. We have driven Hondas for years and have had an Acura we loved, so it was a pretty safe bet that we would like it.
No Advance models were available, but we could drive a base or Technology or A-Spec. We opted to drive a Technology, I didn't know if the 20" wheels on the A-Spec make much of a difference in ride, but went with the Technology to be safe. Very cool car. I didn't think it was blow-your-mind fantastic, but we really liked it. Again thanks to this forum, I knew a great deal about the car. So, after the drive we sat down to talk numbers. After a little back and forth with a salesman we really appreciated, here's where we ended up:
RDX SHAWD Advance
MSRP: $48,395
Discount ($2,000) $1,000 of which was loyalty for owning a 2009 or newer Honda
Doc fee $250 seems to be standard across Ohio
Title $33.50
Price before tax $46,678.50
We also got these accessories at no charge: remote start ($708.90), all season mats ($206), folding cargo tray ($167.50). That's $1,082.40 at the dealer's inflated prices. I pointed out I could buy the mats online for $125 with free shipping to nudge the conversation along, and I think it helped. Calling it $3K in discounts is not great, but the average transaction in my area is $100 over MSRP so I'm fine with it.
The car is slated to arrive around the end of the month, and I'm pretty psyched. There is some extra suspense in not having played with an Advance, which to me makes it more fun. Now, as Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part.

Settled on a price with dealer but I'm really torn about exterior color. I'm set on the black interior. Originally wanted silver (b/c I've had a dark car for 10 years) but the steel metallic looks so nice. Thoughts? Also, I will post my deal as soon as it's in stone. About 4k off.

I just put a down payment on an SH-AWD A-Spec black/black last week. My first ever Acura
It'll be built later this month and I'll hopefully have it by mid-November.
$2,337 off MSRP
$500 off for being a recent college grad (grad school count!)
$5,500 down
Wasn't willing to throw any accessories in.
Financing for $769/mo.
I have only signed to have the vehicle and current promotions reserved. I will sign the remaining paperwork once the car arrives and I have a chance to inspect and test drive it.

These dealership sales folks are driving me crazy with their pervasive and persistent need to "call" rather than email. I realize it is a strategy. And that they want to control the process. And that they don't want stuff in writing. But phone calls are so 1980s. And so inconvenient.

Not yet. I'm in no rush. I've gotten a few quotes ranging from 2800-3300 off and adding only a doc fee of around 400. No dealer prep, no add ons, no other fees. What is a reasonable doc fee? One dealer had a 200 doc fee but their first offer was 0 off so I haven't bothered replying yet.

The quotes you're getting are amazing, though. The doc fee is kind of noise compared to that.

I've got this offer from a PA dealer for the RDX Aspec SH-AWD (Apex Blue with Red interior):
$44,100 plus tax with remote starter & splash guards (included 1k loyalty credit).
Is this a good price?

If invoice is $44,500 and you add about $600 for remote start and $100 for splash guards, then you are at about $45,200. You should be able to get at least $2000 off invoice which would put you at around $43,200 and then add in your loyalty and you are at $42,200 so, in my estimates, you re about $2000 too high on your current deal.

Also, securityguy, I may be hitting you up soon for a Jax deal. We spend winter break in St Augustine (have for years). And if I haven’t taken the plunge yet I’ll be looking to drive a new car back from there.

I was at Costco a week ago (Orlando Florida), and they actually had an RDX out front. When I peaked inside, it looked like there was s $2300 off sticker thing going on. Not as much as I would of thought. And now this is really going to make you all mad. I was not "wowed" by the exterior of the new RDX. I mean it is ok, but not as much as when I look at the Jaguar F-pace. That car has a wow factor to me. Now I did not sit in the inside, or drive it obviously, but was a little disappointed in the outward looks. Maybe because it looks like a nice CRV or Toyota RAV4 to me. My two cents on my first in person impression. To each his own. And in the end, it is just a hunk of metal to move you from Place A to Place B.

First off, thank you to everyone that posted their purchase prices as it helped greatly with our negotiation.
We're from the Atlanta area and purchased from Acura Carland in Duluth, GA. They were a pleasure to deal with; best car buying experience I've had to date.
2019 RDX SH-AWD Advance (car was on the lot)
WDP with Parchment
Cargo Tray
All Season Floor Mats
17 miles
Paid $47,680 OTD with no trade-in.
Happy to answer any questions.

- This price includes $1000 off for having a 2017 SQ5 registered to the same address
- In Georgia we pay 7% sales tax, which is included in the OTD price that we paid
Happy to answer any questions.

Ok - at least I prefaced my comment with I know everyone who has the new RDX is going to hate me. I have a 2011 RDX, so by no means was that considered a good looking car. It was unique, in a non-Pontiac Aztek type of way. Maybe it is the chrome door trim at the bottom of the door that catches my eye the wrong way. Like some designer was bored, and said, "Hey, why don't we throw this piece of chrome strip at the bottom of the door to help distinguish our car from the others". So yes, I am prejudice against putting excessive trim pieces on a vehicle. Now I have to wash and wax this thing, and there is a ridge where it meets the door which will over time collect dust and dirt like all ridges do. So I will enjoy my ugly RDX 1G a little longer.

^^^what he said. Including tax, title, tags, dealer fees is worthless information. Just MSRP, invoice and price paid before what everyone else takes. Need to leave loyalty coupons out of the mix as well...adds no value to the conversation. Only way to compare apples to apples.

I only negotiate OTD prices, but I'll post below what the dealership wrote up to get to my number.
As stated before there was no trade in. We also financed through Delta Credit Union not the dealership.
We purchased this vehicle. It is not a lease.
Total Price: $44,457
Customer Service Fee: $899
Electronic Title Registration: $49
Balance: $45,405
Tax 7%: 3,234
GA Warranty Rights Fee: $3
Tag & Title: $38
SQ5 Discount: -$1000
Balance Due: $47,680

I just picked up my new RDX yesterday. I qualify for no Loyality, Conquest, or military discounts so that is not included in the pricing.
I bought a Steel/Graystone AWD TECH. Out the door not including Tax and Tags was 40,244. That includes destination, doc etc. Dealer is Pohanka in Chantilly, VA. When we first talked last Wednesday they didn't have the above but said it was due in 10/24. A couple of days later the arrival date was moved up to 10/22 and then it really showed up on 10/19.
I got bids from a number of places and the best three were clustered around 40,244. Actually after I'd agreed to the deal I was talking to another bidder who radically changed his quote to 40,000 but I stuck with what I'd already agreed to. I told him if you'd given me that price originally the deal would have been yours.
I'm in NC and got bids from Scarsdale, NY in the north to Jacksonville, FL in the south.
My dealer suggestions for people looking for a good price based on the responses I got are:
New Jersey - DCH and Springfield
Virginia - Pohanka
North Carolina - Crown/Greensboro(This was easily the best in NC but not close to being competitive.)
Florida - Duval(The initial bid was the typical ~2400 off but I got a call Saturday night and the sales guy said 'the message had come down from on high to sell me this vehicle'. He acted like he would meet my low price but he didn't have my model and per the Acura inventory there were no others on the lot from Orlando to Savannah.
A couple of dealers said I was approaching this the right way to get the best price so I may post how I went about it even though I did nothing special, just put out a Request For Quote, no special sauce.
At the last moment I ask for a free Cargo Tray and that was easily agreed to. Basically there were hardly any accessories that I wanted.
The first three dealers mentioned, Pohanka, DCH aand Springfield are trying to meet end of the month numbers. If you are ready to buy now hit them up immediately with exactly what you want.
Edited to add: These are internet sales not walk in the door sales. Send them a note with what you want and that you are buying now.

Question: I’ve got a 3300 off plus tax deal now at an out of town dealer. But looking likely I cannot pick up till mid December (work). Will dealers be more or less incentivized a month from now to make the best offer? My choices are to put down a 1k deposit now to secure price and vehicle in stock (hope I don’t change my mind and want a different package) or wait another few weeks to make final deal.
