Paint Chips on the Front End

Paint Chips on the Front End
Hello all, I had posted over in reddit and someone suggested I post here as well. Is anyone with a 2019 RDX experiencing severe chipping on the front end of their vehicle? Obviously it’s from rocks or small debris but I feel like the paint on my vehicle is chipping much easier than any other vehicle I have owned in the past. Just curious if anyone else has noticed and considers it a defect. I have the 2019 A-Spec in Red Pearl and the chipping seems to only occur on a particular part near the front grill - the chips are spread out but on the same horizontal plane. I've had the vehicle less than a year and know some rock chipping will occur but the paint seems to so easily come off when I look at the damage. I'm having a vendor come out to hopefully touch-up the chips and put a clear bra on but just curious if anyone else experienced the same issue and if this is just expected with Acura's paint. The rest of the vehicle is in great condition and I absolutely love it!

Not personally. In fact, my experience has been more the opposite - the paint and clear coat seem to be much more durable than other vehicles I've had. I've only had the vehicle a few months, but it's mostly road trips on rural Texas highways littered with oilfield trucks and related debris. So far, not a single nick or scratch. Even the windshield seems to be resistant to chips. I suppose more time is needed to fairly judge, but I so far I have no concerns with the paint on the front end or anywhere.

I can't even count how many times I have seen this same concern mentioned on a every auto forum I visit. "the paint on this car is thin, it chips easily" .
In some cases, the physical design of the front end will contribute to chipping, (more vertical upright pane;ls on the front) other times, it is just luck..or lack thereof.
Not diminishing the OP's concern, but it happens to all vehicles. They don't stay new forever. I don't live where rust is an issue, but I always touch up my chips, when I see them anyway. Life goes on.

The painted plastic is fragile. This thing is a princess.

Agreed. I've noticed most car forums have complaints of paint chipping and a lot of people try to cast theories of "thin paint." I don't think the paint has anything to do with it in most cases. I think the blame is three-fold:
1. US roads and highways are more congested than ever before
2. The declining quality of US roads and highways because of the infrastructure crisis
3. The boom in SUVs that are more prone to flinging debris than sedans
Just gotta stand back further than ever before. And if you can afford it, get PPF.

It was like $1200 to do all the leading edges of the vehicle, front bumper, partial hood, partial roof, mirrors. I've had it on my Corvette for 4 years now and its really weathered quite well. Obviously nothing can protect from large debris and rocks so I do have a couple places where it kind of poked through the material but the paint is fine. I've been contemplating replacing the front bumper piece but that's the nice thing about it, you can replace a section if needed. I can definitely understand someone balking at the price but I keep vehicles long term and like the piece of mind. I know there are some other cheaper film alternatives from 3M and others but Xpel is the premium one..
