cushioning in the seat pan -- a rant
Why don't more manufacturers (Acura included) pad their seat pan correctly? This is not rocket science. Volvo has been doing it right for years. Tesla seems to have done it too. Why can't others do it? Most have an almost bench-like seat pan. They have all kinds of bolstering and leg extensions, but the pan itself is uncomfortable, so what good is all the other stuff (including lumbar and massaging functions).
In the old days with cloth seats, many car makers had much better cushioning in the pan, albeit not supportive enough, therefore bad for the mid/upper back on long drives. Now however, they have taken the pan and made it rock solid and there's almost no protection for the tailbone which is pretty sad when driving on broken roads.
Is it just me noticing this?

My spouse uses one of these -
Initially it was for added height and better visibility, (he's a whopping 5'01"), but almost immediately noticed a big increase in his comfort while driving. Enough so, that he continues to use it as a passenger if I'm driving too.

I'm always concerned that third party cushions will detract from the crash protection that the car offers since they weren't designed with those in mind.

Tesla has done a great job too. Their earlier seats got a lot of complaints but they seem to have taken the feedback and addressed them. I tried Mazda a few years ago and I thought they were Acura-class in terms of comfort, i.e. the seat pan wasn't all that great.

Look at how flat the seat pan in the RDX is compared to the Volvo. Pay close attention to the padding especially where the pan connects to the seat back.

The one overriding complaint I see on the CX-5 forums as well as video reviews is the seat comfort. While some people don't have a problem with them there a lot that do. I've never sat in one but once our local dealer gets a Signature in stock I'm going to test drive one for myself. It checks off almost all of my wishes at a reasonable price and great reliability but if the seats aren't comfortable it won't matter.

Interesting. I find the RDX seats to be some of the most comfortable I've sat in, even on 5+ hr road trips. The better halfs CX-5 seats were uncomfortable after 20 minutes for me. As someone else described, it's more like you sit on them instead of in them.

So with the array of driver seat alignment choices & options in my Advance - I find our seats to be extremely comfortable even after driving a few hours.
I've tweaked every setting using the Mode Selector:
- Horizontal position
- Height position
- Seat back angle position
Then the Seat Control Interface:
- Lumbar support adjustment
- Bolster Support
- Thigh support
Then once I strap in with my seatbelt, I literally feel like I'm locked into a cockpit like a jet pilot. I've had zero discomfort like I said, after three or four hours of driving.

Seats are on the firm side, but I don't feel any discomfort even on 10+ hour drives. I had vehicles with wider/softer seats, but these are the best by far. In addition, how many cars have front/back adjustable headrests?! Many cars push driver's head forward causing neck pain. It supposed to be some safety angle (misguided?) requirement, but Acura found way around it. On short trips I move it forward to more alert position, but on long highway drives I move it a notch back.

This thread is proof that someone somewhere will complain about anything. If you can't adjust the seats in the RDX to your liking, you must have one wierd ass.
If I really tried to come up with a complaint about the seats, the only thing would be is there are TOO MANY adjustments.

I understand complaining about limp mode and build quality, but this is just pure complaining

I would admit that it took me a serious minute to figure out the gazillion ways to adjust the seat. But - I mean - we are literally creating a unique, custom seat that only fits our body style and shape.
