That's nice.

Your initial posts are very intriguing. Please tell us more. Have you ever considered a Zune or a Sansa? What model of iPod do you have? Has it been good for you?

I have a Zune HD and it has been great. It doesn't have many apps but a couple new ones are always added. One thing I do love about it is the HD radio. Like others have said if you are looking for apps get the Ipod. If you want a great music player get the Zune.

HD Radio on a portable device is slick. One thing Apple is good at, is leaving out the no brainer features that should have been added long ago.

Yeah I never knew that some radio stations have 1 or 2 other broadcasts in HD until I got the Zune.

Yup, it's the same concept as HD TV broadcasting. IMHO, Apple has purposely left out the radio market because they want you to buy music. On the marketing side, makes sense, they need to make money on the device and thereafter, but the public suffers because of it.

They should have done what the Zune did. When the Zune recognizes the song playing on the radio there is a little icon at the bottom of the screen so you can buy the song in the Zune marketplace.

It does? News to me. It is HD Radio? When did they add it to the Nano? Was it before or after the Zune added HD Radio?

No it is not HD, but still a radio....

Most who own a portable player do so BECAUSE they hate radio.

I agree and disagree. That's the reason that I have one but most of my friends who have an iPod which is basically everyone they all love the radio and think I'm weird because I can't stand it.

The proof is in the pudding, with radio listening being at an all time low.

I know my gym and many others let you tune in to a frequency to be able to hear whats on TV vs. listening to your music. This is great for business types that leave the office and go str8 to Golds eic and want to catch up on national news. My gym has 3 TV's set to CNN, MSNBC, or FOX Noise (I kid!!!) and a 4th with local news. So it's a great feature to have. Apple left out stereo Blutooth for a while until the 3gs. My Treo 700wx windows phone had this back in 06 and i loooved having wireless head phones. Streaming BT was left out a good while as well. The idea is apple will leave something important out justt to add it on the next edition which send everyone running to get the new version.

I'm waiting to get Sprint HTC win phone 7 wihen it releases which will have zune player onboard and XBOX Live. All wp7 phones have this, i'm just a HTC loyal customer as I've loved my Touch Pro 1 and now 2.

Let me see Apple leaving things off, the touch has a camera that does video and stills, does Zune? Rather have it than radio.

When I went to the gym, I went there to work out, not socialize. I wanted music in my ears that pumped me up, not news.

If radio is slowly dying it's because of Pandora, Slacker, Last.fm, etc. mp3 players have been around for over ten years. Pandora and it's ilk are more of a competitor to radio than mp3 players. I know when I go to clients offices some of them listen to radio on their PC or have an actual radio while some of my clients use websites like pandora for music at work.

We're talking about a 2009 model Zune compared to a 2010 iTouch. If you compared the 2009 iTouch you noticed that it was lacking a camera and an FM radio. If MS updates the Zune I'd expect it to have a camera.

Just cause you don't want to listen to the news doesn't mean that others don't. That's why it's there, if gym members didn't want it then gyms all over the country wouldn't have it there.

Don't forget Radio is also dying because of it's own doing. Ever increasing number of ads/commercials are annoying as hell and extra talk/interviews on radio stations that people once turned to for music is It's a lose-lose situation for radio stations, they need money to support themselves and that only comes from ad revenue which people are annoyed at.

That's why I don't listen, that and the horrible music. I'd say I listen to about 10mins of radio a year and about 7 mins is spent skipping from station to station avoiding either horrible music or commercials. I get frustrated real fast when listening to the radio.

And just because you want it doesn't mean others do, Apple has sold how many MILLIONS of ipods??? Not having an FM radio hasn't hurt sales.

It is 2011, where's Zune at being the the latest and greatest you make it out to be?

And what's this crap about having to have a subscription to use Zune marketplace? You have to pay, to pay for music and videos you'd like to d/l'd?

Huh? You're reading comprehension is lacking. Never, has anyone said that you NEED a Zune Pass subscription to use the Marketplace. I hope you don't really believe that. Think about it, does that make any sense? IDK why you even bothered to say that.

The Zune got caught in the middle of the Windows Phone 7 rebuild. WP7 is a newer version of the Zune OS, so MS put Zune development on hold in order to get WP7 out. There's much more $$$ to be made in the mobile phone market that the mp3 market. If MS makes a new version of Zune it will be based off of the WP7 OS, since while the ZuneHD is similar it's not compatible with the new OS. MS hasn't confirmed or denied a new model of Zune based on WP7 but a few months ago there was a job posting that seemed to point to a new model ZHD

Also, Windows 7 called. It's a great OS.
So the sound quality on a Zune is a 9 and the iPod is an 8. Can you really notice the difference or are you just going by what a magazine says? And I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that Windows 7 is an ok OS. It only took them 25 years to make it.

...because Linux and OS X were perfect from the start.

BTW, I use Linux, OS X and Win 7. Each have their benefits (and drawbacks), and each has software that may not be available on another OS or a comparable piece of software that is available, may not be as good.

Earlier, you mentioned that you don't use MS Office products at home? What do you use if you don't mind me asking then? OpenOffice? Do you still save your documents in an MS format or do you use simple txt or rtf?

i love the fact that i can search and listen to the song that I want to listen to, not songs LIKE the song i want to listen to

like for pandora i was searching this one song, i think by rick ross, the past 2 months it only played the song ONCE, and just so happened i got stuck in the tunnel on the train ride home so it cut in and out and pandora eventually skipped it.

I can hear a noticeable difference in sound quality going from an ipod to a Zune. Some people don't feel having better sound quality is more important than having good apps, but I do. I spend a large amount of time in my car everyday. As such, my zune is used as an mp3 95% of the time. That 5% where I'm on the internet with it or using an app isn't worth sacrificing sound quality to me.

Of course, I admit that is not the common way to view these devices anymore. Most of my friends spend more on apps than on music.

I gave up on Windows after that whole Vista fiasco. True each platform has their issues I've experienced way less issues with Mac. I don't have any need for MS Office at home. I'm 6 years out of College and I only use the internet at home for recreation (emails, browsing, etc).

Well then the Zune would be a better fit for you. I had one friend that had a Zune and I didn't notice the sound difference. Plus I use iTunes a lot for apps, and movies too so having an iPod is a better fit for me.

Quick Reply: Zune or Ipod
