Windows XP equivalent to OSX Time Machine?

I am searching for some software that is similiar to Mac's new Time Machine software that backups specified material to an external drive at defined time intervals.

Here is the info from Apple's website: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/timemachine.html

Time Machine is basically just a differential backup program. The thing that makes it stand out is that it has a really slick interface which is essentially built right into the OS itself. Any decent backup program (emphasis *backup*, not HD imaging) can do what Time Machine does. The difference is going to be how convenient/inconvenient it is to use.

Look into something like this
Acronis® True Image Echo Workstation or Ghost.

I'm a big fan of imaging over normal backup/restore. With imaging products it is very easy to get a working system back up and running.

I have something that is compatible with XP and might work for you.

I bought it last year for $874 and have only used it 3 times
I will sell it to you for $875

Syncback

I have been using the free version for years to keep multiple replications going between multiple machines. It works like a charm.

IMO, imaging is for disaster recovery, not file and folder backups. Different tools for different purposes. You absolutley can use True Image or GHOST to restore individual files/folders, but my experience has been that using imaging products for differential or incremental backup purposes is a PIA compared to a "normal" dedicated data backup application.

Umm Windows Home Server (WHS)is awesome!! You can get one for about $600 or build one yourself with used computer parts and it connects to up to 10 PC. It also acts as a web/file/print server (I even set up an Appletalk network on it) that can stream to your Xbox 360 or PS3 and it comes with your own dynamic DNS web address so you can access your files anywhere in the world as long as you got internet access. I was a beta tester for WHS since February and now I use the retail version. It backs up everynight and you can go back and view backups from anyday. It also acts as a Remote Desktop server so you can be in Africa log on to your WHS website and then chose your computer and log into it and access any programs or files you want just like Go to my PC.

Check out the HP mediasmart server which does all sorts of stuff plus there's free add on that you can install in WHS that gives it even more functionality.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Do a search you'll find nothing but positive reviews, I love mine.
