Windows Media Player Question..

How do I download the codec extension so I can view certain files in Windows Media player? I've been getting errors everytime I try to open up a file, it ends up only letting me hear the video, not see it. It says "codec error". I know there's an easy answer to this question which will probably make me feel so stupid, so what is it?

Usually, if it's a standard codec for WMP, it'll download automatically. Otherwise, you'll have to figure out which codec is needed and just download it separately. If you need, I can send you a codec pack I have that has a number of the major codecs needed to play most files.

I happened to go into the downloads portion of WMP...I went into the plugins portion and it linked me to Microsoft's website which gives me the codec installation packages.. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...cdownload.aspx So I install it and this thing STILL doesn't want to open, giving me the same error message as before.

MS codec packages do not include third party codecs including DiVX, XVid, AC3, etc. You need to download those codecs separately from their individual providers or get a codec pack that includes all of them.
