i have a dell mini 12 netbook which is a gift for someone and it came with vista basic. i just reinstalled windows xp and didn't enter an activation code cus it never asked for it. i just checked the activation by typing "oobe/msoobe /a" into the run box and it says it's activated.

does anyone know whether it's good to go (with no xp key) or if it will lock up after 30 days cus no xp key was entered??

edit: i used the dell mini 9 windows xp cd for the install, not a regular xp disc. i wouldn't assume that makes any difference...

 

Its good to go. Sounds like its a preactivated corporate XP setup.

 

Did you use a Dell XP disk? If so, you're in the clear.

yea the windows activation window says that it's activated. it's just that i don't want to mail this laptop to my computer illiterate friend overseas and have her get locked out after 30 days haha. then i'll have to dig up a key that i don't know works or buy one for her.
