Where to buy IDE hard drive?
Where to buy IDE hard drive?
I need to find a IDE drive for a clients CCTV DVR. He bought this DVR from a previous installer who never did the job. During the installation I realized there was no drive. I am trying to find something sub $100 that is as close to 500GB as possible. I haven't shopped for drives in years and didn't realize how hard it is to find a larger IDE drive. Anyone know where I could find this (new, not refurb)?
One, I didn't even realize CompUSA still had an online store. Second, I should have mentioned the hardware literature actually said NOT to buy Western Digital as their hardware has an issue with them. I believe it mentioned that Seagate was the best option. Out of the ones listed, only the WD had a large enough capacity so none of those will work.
I'm trying to help him utilize what he already bought. I have not bought any DVR's that did not come with the drive before. Unfortunately whoever sold him this one did, so I am just trying to make it happen at this point. I looked through Amazon and they were pretty limited. I might have to drop down to a 320 GB as 500 seems limited, except from Western Digital.

How old is the DVR? Perhaps the Western Digital IDE drives you can find today will work?
If you're willing to give one a shot...

Just a thought, but can you use a readily available SATA drive with an IDE converter? The converters are $10 for the cheapo ones or $20 for the good ones. IF (considerable "if") the DVR will accept this (they are about the pickiest pieces of hardware for HDDs I have ever seen...) then this would allow you to really shop around for a low cost SATA drive.
Can't believe no one has said Newegg yet. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...lue=359%3A7789
